Year 7 Class 1 (칠학년일반) was a seven-member girl group under Dareun Byeol Entertainment. They debuted on January 24, 2014 with the digital single "Oppa Virus".

They presumably disbanded in 2018 due to inactivity.

The group is named Year 7 Class 1 as 7th grade does not exist in South Korea's elementary education curriculum, meaning that they will become an unique group that has never been seen before.[1] They are also the first group from their agency, making them Class 1.[2]

History[]

2014: Debut with "Oppa Virus", "Always" & "Breakup Fighting"[]

On January 6, 2014, the group's SNS were launched.[3] Two days later, on January 8, teasers revealing the lineup were posted. As part of their concept, each member was assigned a specific role representing different positions within a high school.[4]

The group's lineup consisted of Baek Se Hee as Class President,[5] Kang Min Ju as Class Vice President,[6] Shin Ee Rang as Head of the Entertainment Department,[7] Kwon So Jeong as Sports Captain[8] Han Bit Na as Genius,[9] Yoo Hwa as Bread Shuttle[10] and Go Eun Shil as Head of the Beautification Department.[11]

On January 24, Year 7 Class 1 made their debut with the digital single "Oppa Virus".

On May 27, they made their first comeback with the digital single titled "Always".

On November 7, the group released their third digital single titled "Breakup Fighting".

2015-2016: "White Wind", "Always (2015 ver.)", "Believe", Japanese debut with "Oppa Virus"[]

On June 1, 2015, the group made their comeback with their fourth digital single "White Wind", which is a remake of Sobangcha's 1988 song of the same name.[12]

Later in August 28, they released their fifth digital single titled "Always (2015 ver.)".

On November 4, the group released their first mini album Believe.

On July 1, 2016, Year 7 Class 1 made their official Japanese debut with the digital single "Oppa Virus", which is a Japanese version of their debut digital single.

2017-2018: "Please Remember Me", "With Spring" & disbandment[]

On January 12, 2017, they released their sixth digital single titled "Please Remember Me".

On May 10, they released their seventh digital single "With Spring", which featured acoustic versions of their previous releases.

After over a year of inactivity, the group presumably disbanded as the members began promoting independently without referencing or presenting themselves as a part of the group.

Aftermath[]

Following their disbandment, the members went their separate ways:

  • Kwon So Jeong became active as a model.
  • Han Bit Na became active as a soloist. She eventually debuted as a soloist with the mini album 0-6 on March 20, 2025, under the stage name OWN.
  • Yoo Hwa created a YouTube channel where she used to upload vlogs. However, she has since shifted focus to her personal life.
  • Go Eun Shil became active as a model and actress, under the name Ko Yusun. In 2023, she participated in Miss Trot 3 but was eliminated in the first round.[13]
  • The reaming members appeared to have left the entertainment industry.

Controversies[]

Glorification of bullying[]

In 2014, the group was caught up in a controversy regarding the role of "Bread Shuttle" assigned to member Yoo Hwa. While Yoo Hwa was given this role because of her love for bread, this role is commonly associated with bullying dynamics in Korean schools. As a result, some netizens criticized the agency for inadvertently glorifying bullying and violence.[14]

In an interview, Yoo Hwa explained that while the role had a negative connotation, it was used to show that the group could come together despite the stigma associated with the term.[15]

Wardrobe malfunctions[]

During their time as a group, the group experienced two wardrobe malfunctions.[2]

The first incident occurred during the promotions for "Always". After their performance on December 11, 2014, a fancam of Yoo Hwa went viral, showing her accidentally pulling up her safety shorts along with her skirt too far, inadvertently revealing her underwear.[16]

The second incident took place during the promotions for "White Wind". On July 9, 2015, member Baek Se Hee was seen performing without safety shorts. On July 19, 2017, Dareun Byeol Entertainment addressed the incident in an interview, stating that the members were supposed to wear safety shorts; however, they only found out that they had forgotten Se Hee's safety shorts right before the performance and had no choice but to perform without them. Se Hee also explained that she didn't have time to worry about the wardrobe malfunction as it was more important to not do a sloppy performance on stage as rookies.[17]

Notes[]

  1. Closest English term would be 'Class Clown', but it's basically more of someone who has a ton of energy and is therefore unpredictable. "Wild" and "Crazy" may also be used to describe these people but with none of the negative connotations.
