Ye-A (예아) was a girl group under Shinhoo Entertainment. Originally as eight, they debuted on July 18, 2014 with their first and only single "National Treasure" under Kiroy Company.

They presumably disbanded on April 28, 2016 as their agency closed down.

The group's name stands for "children who do art (술을 하는 이들)", expressing their goal to become great artist.[1]

History[]

2014: Debut with "National Treasure", Yigyer's hiatus, Addition of Mia, Xiha and Rose[]

On February 25, 2014, Kiroy Company introduced the first member and leader of their upcoming girl group Ye-A: Yigyer, under her birth name Hwang Hyun Jin, as well as plans for Ye-A's debut in April.[2] The agency also updated their artists list with the seven-member lineup of Ye-A, consisting of Mia, Yigyer, Dohye, Lora, Hyeseong, Hady and Kazoo.[3] However, plans fell through and the debut was delayed.

On July 7, 2014, Kiroy Company revealed the first four members of Ye-A: Yigyer, Kazoo, Yeorin (formerly Lora) and Chai. The four remaining members were later on the 14th of the same month: Dohye, Pier, Hady and Hyei (formerly Hyeseong).[4]

On July 18, 2014, Ye-A made their debut as an eight-member girl group with their first digital single "National Treasure".

On August 28, 2014, it was announced that Yigyer would be going on a hiatus to study abroad at New York University.[5]

In October 2014, their CEO announced that the group would be adding new members.[citation needed]

In December 2014, the group appeared with only five members: Kazoo, Hady, Yeorin, Chai and Pier, with Hyei and Dohye appeared to be missing.[6] On December 24, 2014, the group appeared as eight at Kiroy Company's Christmas party with three new members: Mia, Xiha and Rose.[7]

2015: Dohye, Hyei, Chai, Kazoo's departure, Agency change[]

In January 2015, Dohye and Hyei were confirmed to have left the group and returned to being members of My-B.[8]

In March 2015, Chai and Kazoo were also assumed to have left the group as their names were removed from Ye-A's Twitter bio.[9] Chai later confirmed that she had left the group to focus on her studies.[citation needed]

In September 2015, Ye-A became Shinhoo Entertainment's artist as Kiroy Company was acquired by Shinhoo and rebranded into Shinhoo Entertainment.[10] Among the members, Yeorin and Yigyer weren't listed as artists under Shinhoo Entertainment, indicating that they were no longer members of Ye-A.[citation needed]

On November 21, 2015, Mia was revealed as a member of GIRLS GIRLS, under the stage name Miso, so it was assumed that she had left Ye-A.[11]

In December 2015, Pier answered to a fan question on their fancafe that they were preparing for a comeback soon.[12]

2016: Disbandment[]

On April 28, 2016, Shinhoo Entertainment declared business closure and Ye-A was presumed to have disbanded.[13]

  • Kazoo, now using her real name, Kwon Eun Bi, participated in Produce 48 as a trainee under Woollim Entertainment. She finished the competition in seventh place, thus debuting as a member and leader of IZ*ONE.[18] She made her solo debut with her first mini album Open, on August 24, 2021.
  • Chai signed with Soo Entertainment and transitioned to being active as an actress but appeared to have left the entertainment industry shortly after.[19]
