XOXO is the second special album by ONEWE. It was released on August 29, 2023 with "Salty Boy" and "Omnipresent" serving as the album's double title tracks.

Background[]

On August 21, ONEWE posted a logo motion video announcing the release of their second special album XOXO on August 29.[1] The album contains two unit songs: "Salty Boy" by members Dong Myeong and Giuk, and "Omnipresent" by members Harin and Giuk. "Salty Boy" was first revealed through a unit performance during the band's O! NEW E!volution Ⅱ Encore concert on May 15, 2022. An earlier version of "Omnipresent" was previously released by Giuk on his personal SoundCloud under the song's Korean title "동서남북 (2019.05.28)" (Prod. Giuk) on April 7, 2021.

Members Yong Hoon and Kang Hyun, both completing their military service at the time of release, did not participate as releasing artists; however, the latter was credited for guitar in "Omnipresent", which he had recorded for "동서남북 (2019.05.28)" (Prod. Giuk) prior to his military enlistment.[2]

Composition[]

"Salty Boy" was written and composed by members Giuk and Dong Myeong, and arranged by Giuk in collaboration with Jeon Dawoon. "Omnipresent" was written and produced by Giuk as a solo song and then adapted for official release as a unit song, with Giuk, Harin and Cocodubupapa contributing to the composition and arrangement. "Omnipresent" also includes a guitar solo by member Kang Hyun, recorded for the original version prior to his military enlistment.[2]

Trivia[]

The music videos for "Salty Boy" and "Omnipresent" were directed by Giuk's close friend Cho Young Sang (Ryo), who previously also worked with Giuk to direct the special music video for his song "Love Virus❤ (2050)" (feat. Sunwoo).[3][4]
