"Who!" (stylized in all caps) is the debut single album by BOYNEXTDOOR. It was released on May 30, 2023 with "But I Like You", "One and Only" and "Serenade" as the single's triple title tracks.
The physical album comes in three versions: Who, Crunch and Weverse Album.
Background[]
On April 3, KOZ Entertainment started a 56-day countdown through their official website.[1][2] On April 4, KOZ confirmed that their new boy group would be preparing to debut on May 30, 2023.[3] On April 17, the group's logo motion was released through the HYBE Labels YouTube channel, revealing that its name to be BOYNEXTDOOR.[4]
On May 3, it was announced that the group would debut with their first single album titled "Who!".[5]
Composition[]
The first track from the single album, "But I Like You" is described as a rock-based Teen Pop song that features a cheerful sound that expresses the excitement of falling in love. Members Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak participated in writing and composing the song, and they injected natural emotions with everyday lyrics that seemed to be talking to their peers.[6] "One and Only" as a song about BOYNEXTDOOR's pleasant confidence in their determination to confess to their crush with a cheerful rhythm.[7]
Production[]
On May 3, 2023, it was reported that the group's members were involved in the production of the three music videos that would accompany the album's release.[8]
Members Jaehyun, Taesan and Woonhak contributed to the composition of the songs "But I Like You" and "Serenede". Zico, CEO and founder of KOZ Entertainment, participated in the production and composition of "One and Only".[9]
Promotions[]
It was announced on May 22, 2023 that the group would hold a special titled "BOYNEXTDOOR Tonight" airing on Mnet and the online channel M2 on the day of the album's release.[10] On June 1, 2023, the group held their debut music stage for "One and Only" on M Countdown.[11]
Commercial performance[]
According to Hanteo Chart, "Who!" sold a total of 110,442 copies in the first week of its release, making it the fifth highest first-week sales among boy group debut albums.[12]
On June 8, in the monthly update for May, Circle Chart reported that "Who!" reached 51,187 copies sold. It debuted at #27 on the monthly chart.[13] According to Hanteo Chart, it sold 110,442 copies in its first week.[14]
