Wendy (웬디) is a South Korean singer under SM Entertainment. She is the main vocalist of the girl group Red Velvet.

She made her solo debut on April 5, 2021 with the mini album Like Water.[1]


2014–present: SMROOKIES, Red Velvet

On March 19, 2014, she was revealed as a trainee under SMROOKIES.[2]

She debuted as a member of Red Velvet on August 1, 2014 with the group's first digital single "Happiness".

Following her injury at 2019's SBS Gayo Daejeon, she was on hiatus from all group activities.

On August 19, 2020, SM Entertainment released a statement stating that Wendy will be participating in the group's promotional activities at a level that does not strain her.[3]

On March 10, 2021, SM Entertainment announced that Wendy will be making her solo debut in April.[4] On March 24, 2021, a teaser photo was released, confirmed that she will be releasing her first mini album, Like Water, on April 5.[1]

Personal life

On December 25, 2019, Wendy fell from a stage while rehearsing for a solo performance at the annual SBS Gayo Daejeon. She suffered serious injuries to her pelvis, wrist and cheek. SBS later issued an apology and has begun an internal investigation into the cause of the accident.[5][6]

  • She tried out for Cube Entertainment before making it as a trainee at S.M. Entertainment in 2012.[7]
  • She trained for approximately 2 years under S.M.[8]
  • She became fluent in Korean and English while living in Canada, and has also learned to speak some Spanish and French.[9]
  • As of May 14, 2021, she is a member of the Community Chest of Korea’s Honor Society for donating over 100 million won to the charity.[10]
