Background

On November 5, 2024, SM Entertainment shared plans for Kai's fourth mini album, aiming for release in the first quarter of 2025. On February 10, 2025, SM Entertaiment revealed that Kai will be releasing his fourth mini album in the second quarter of the year. On March 5, news outlet StarNews reported that Kai was in the preparations stage for his comeback, aiming for an April release. Later that day, Kai's comeback was confirmed by SM Entertainment.

On March 31, Wait On Me was announced to be released on April 21.

Composition

The title track "Wait On Me" is an Afrobeats song that mix a restrained groove created by percussion instruments and a synth string sounds building tension. The lyrics speaks about the beauty of emotions that are slowly revealed through waiting rather than rushing.

"Pressure" is a pop song with the lyrical calmness of a flute added to the 808 bass and rhythmic Latin trap beats. It tells a story about the inner strength that feels comfortable under pressure.

"Off and Away" is an Afrobeats-based pop song with an exotic melody and unique voice percussion. The lyrics depict a situation of conflict within one's heart that wants to hold on to a relationship that has passed but crumbles in the face of reality.

"Walls Don't Talk" is a reggaeton-style mid-tempo pop song, with an accumulation of various percussion instruments. The lyrics capture the tense moment where two people are strongly attracted to each other and try to hide their feelings of being on edge.

"Ridin" is a pop song based on techno and hip-hop drums. It talks about the will to overcome limits, awaken one's true self, and run toward a goal without hesitation.
