Cho Seung Youn (조승연; or simply Seung Youn) is a South Korean singer-songwriter, rapper and producer under Yue Hua Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group UNIQ and a former member of the project boy group X1.
As a soloist, he goes by the stage name WOODZ (우즈; previously as Luizy). He made his solo debut on July 29, 2016 with the single "Recipe".
Early life
Seung Youn moved to Brazil when he was in elementary school, where he lived for 2 years. In that time, he was part of a base team of a popular Brazilian football team, Corinthians. In the team, he was called Luizinho.[3]
When he returned to Korea from studying in Brazil, he had left for the Philippines right after. Whenever he visited Korea, he would audition and finally passed a phone call audition while he was in the Philippines. Without his parents knowing, Seung Youn went to Korea for the official audition.[4]
Career
2019–2020: Produce X 101 and X1, Equal, Woops!
In 2019, he participated in Mnet's boy group survival show Produce X 101. He finished in fifth place, thus becoming a member of X1.[5] The group officially debuted on August 27, 2019 with the mini album, 비상 : Quantum Leap.
However, on January 6, 2020, the agencies representing the members announced the group has disbanded due to not being able to reach an unanimous agreement following the Produce 101 vote manipulation controversy.[6]
On April 22, 2020, Yue Hua Entertainment confirmed that he will be making a comeback in June.[7] On June 8, they announced his first mini album Equal, set to release on June 29.[8]
In the August issue of @star1, he revealed he is working on a new album which should be release in 2020.[9] On November 4, Yue Hua Entertainment confirmed that he will be releasing a new album on November 17. The next day, they announced his second mini album, Woops!.[10]
2021: "Set", "Lullaby", Only Lovers Left
On February 22, WOODZ dropped a teaser announcing a comeback coming soon. On February 23, his first single album Set, was revealed to be released on March 15.[11]
He released the digital single "Lullaby" on August 27, 2021.
On September 16, WOODZ announced an upcoming the release. On September 17, he announced he will be making his comeback with his third mini album, Only Lovers Left, on October 5.[12]
2022: Colorful Trauma
On April 17, he announced his fourth mini album, Colorful Trauma, set to release on May 4.[13]
