VICTON (빅톤) is a six-member boy group under IST Entertainment.[Notes 1] Originally as seven, they officially debuted on November 9, 2016 with the mini album Voice To New World.
History[]
2016: Debut with Voice To New World[]
VICTON made their official debut as a seven-member group with the release of their first mini album Voice To New World on November 9, 2016.
2017: Ready, Identity, From. VICTON[]
The group made their first-ever comeback on March 2, 2017, with their second mini album Ready. They then made two more comebacks with two more mini albums within the remainder of the year, releasing Identity on August 23 and From. VICTON on November 9 in honor of their one-year anniversary.
2018-2019: "Time of Sorrow", Produce X 101, Nostalgia[]
On May 23, VICTON made their return with their first single album "Time of Sorrow", marking the group's only 2018 comeback.
During the first half of 2019, Seungwoo and Byungchan participated in the reality show Produce X 101. On July 11, Play M Entertainment announced that the latter would be leaving the show due to health concerns such as chronic achilles tendonitis.[1] On July 19, 2019, Seungwoo ranked 3rd in the finale, becoming a member of group X1, with an exclusive 2-and-a-half years contract.[2]
On November 4, 2019, the group made a comeback with six members with the release of their fifth mini album Nostalgia. They then earned their very first-ever music show win of their career on the November 13 broadcast of SBS MTV's The Show.[3]
2020-2021: Seungwoo's return, Continuous, "Mayday", Voice : The Future is Now[]
On January 6, 2020, X1's representative agencies announced that the group had officially disbanded as they were unable to reach an unanimous agreement following the Produce 101 vote rigging controversy.[4] Later the same month, Play M Entertainment announced that Seungwoo would then return to activities with VICTON for a March comeback.[5] Their sixth mini album Continuous was then released on March 9.
On June 2, 2020, VICTON made a comeback with the release of their second single album "Mayday".
On November 10, Play M Entertainment confirmed that the group would be making a comeback with their first full-length album Voice : The Future is Now on December 1. However, on December 18, 2020, Play M announced the album would be released on January 11, 2021 and that their comeback showcase would be canceled due to the continuing spread of COVID-19 and level 2.5 social distancing restrictions.[6]
2022: "Chorongraph", Chaos, Chan's departure, Choice[]
On December 28, 2021, IST Entertainment confirmed that VICTON is preparing for a comeback in January 2022, which is their first comeback in exactly a year. Their third single album "Chronograph" was then released on January 18.
On May 1, several media outlets confirmed that the group is in the final stage of preparations for a comeback by the end of the month.[7] On May 5, the group announced their seventh mini album Chaos, which the date was then revealed to be released on May 31. The album was then released on May 31 and was then promoted between June and July 2022.
On September 22, IST Entertainment revealed that group member Chan was caught drunk driving on September 20 and had been investigated by the police. His group and individual activities would be suspended until further notice.[8] On October 11, IST Entertainment announced that Chan would officially leave VICTON following his DUI controversy.[9]
On October 16, the group announced their eighth mini album Choice, which was revealed to be released on November 15.[10]
2023: Contract renewal talks with IST Entertainment[]
On April 20, 2023, it was announced that group members Choi Byung Chan, Do Han Se and Jung Su Bin would be leaving IST Entertainment following the expiration of their contracts after deciding not to renew. Han Seung Woo, Kang Seung Sik and Lim Se Jun had their exclusive contract period with IST partially adjusted due to military enlistment, and thus, will remain artists under the agency for the time being.[11]
