Unforgiven (stylized in all caps) is the first studio album by LE SSERAFIM. It was released on May 1, 2023 with "Unforgiven" serving as the album's title track. "Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard's Wife" was also promoted on music shows.
The physical album is available in ten versions: Dewy Sage, Dusty Amber, Bloody Rose, two Weverse Albums versions, and five member-specific Compact versions.
Background[]
On March 16, 2023, local news outlet Star News reported that LE SSERAFIM would be releasing an album in early May. Hours later, Source Music responded to the reports and stated that the comeback date would be revealed later.[1] On April 2, a video teaser posted to LE SSERAFIM's official YouTube channel announced the album's title, format and release date.[2]
Critical reception[]
Unforgiven made it to NME's "The Best Albums of 2023… So Far" mid-year list.[3]
Commercial performance[]
On April 11, YG PLUS revealed that Unforgiven had reached 1.03 million pre-orders.[4] On April 29, YG PLUS gave an updated statement and revealed that the album had reached 1.38 million pre-orders.[5]
On May 1, Hanteo Chart reported that Unforgiven had sold 1,024,034 copies in its first day of release, setting a personal record for highest first-day sales.[6]
On May 9, it was reported that Unforgiven had sold 89,000 copies on the Oricon Chart, thus ranking first on Oricon's Weekly Chart for the week.[7]
On May 14, Billboard announced that Unforgiven debuted at #6 on the Top 200 Albums chart, becoming the fastest Korean girl group to enter the top 10.[8] It spent eight consecutive weeks on the chart, making it the group's first album to do so.[9] On June 6, "Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard's Wife" debuted at #1 on the Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart.[10]
On June 8, in the monthly update for May, Circle Chart reported that Unforgiven reached 1,509,974 copies sold. It debuted at #3 on the monthly chart.[11]
On June 9, 2023, the Recording Industry Association of Japan reported that Unforgiven received a gold certification for reaching 100,000 units shipped.[12]
On July 6, 2023, Circle Chart reported that Unforgiven received a million certification for surpassing 1 million copies sold.[13]
"Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard's Wife" was ranked #32 on NME's "The 50 Best Songs of 2023" list.[14]
