Tony (토니; also known as Tony Yu) is a Canadian singer under CTDENM, RYCE Entertainment and Astro Music. He made his solo debut on July 29, 2024 with the EP Spatial Recorder.
He is also known for being a contestant on Mnet's survival show Produce X 101 and the Chinese survival show Youth With You 3.
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
In 2012, he was featured in the radio show Little Sunshine.[1]
2019: Produce X 101[]
In 2019, Tony participated as a contestant on Mnet's survival show, Produce X 101, representing Hongyi Entertainment. He ranked A on his first evaluation.
He was able to qualify for the finale, but ranked number 20, thus being eliminated.
2020–2021: Youth With You 3, agency dispute[]
On December 15, 2020, it was confirmed that Tony would be participating in the Chinese survival show Youth With You 3.
On February 1, 2021, Hongyi Entertainment issued a statement stating that Tony unilaterally proposed to terminate his contract with the agency and was also not given approval to appear on Youth With You 3.[2] That same day, Astro Music released their own statement and explained that his contract had been officially terminated on August 4, 2020 by the courts.[3]
On April 5, 2021, it was announced that Tony had officially departed from the show due to the recent scandal involving his parent's alleged illegal businesses and people questioning his nationality.[4]
2024: New agency and solo debut[]
On June 17, 2024, CTDENM shared that Tony Yu had signed on with them to resume activities in South Korea.[5]
On July 6, he announced that he will make his solo debut on July 29 with the EP Spatial Recorder.[6]
