The War is the fourth full-length album by EXO. It was released on July 18, 2017 with "Ko Ko Bop" serving as the album's title track. The physical release comes in three versions: Regular A & B, and Private.
A repackaged version of the album, called The War: The Power of Music, was released on September 5, 2017.
Member Lay did not participate in this album's recording and promotion due to conflicts with his promotional schedules in China.
Background[]
The title of the song "Ko Ko Bop" is explained as carrying the fun pronunciation of "Ko Ko" and the musicality of a "bop". It is described as a fun and exciting song that will make people want to dance.
While not officially confirmed, the song may also sample the 1960's song "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop" by American group Little Anthony and the Imperials.
