Taeyeon (Korean: 태연; Japanese: テヨン) is a South Korean singer-songwriter under SM Entertainment. She is the leader of the girl group Girls' Generation, a member of its sub-units Girls' Generation-TTS and Girls' Generation-Oh!GG, and a member of the project ballad group S.M. THE BALLAD. She is also a member of the female unit GOT the beat.
She made her solo debut on October 7, 2015 with her first mini album I.
Career[]
2007: Debut with Girls' Generation[]
Taeyeon debuted as a member of Girls' Generation on August 5, 2007 with the group's first single "Into the New World".
2012: Debut with Girls' Generation-TTS[]
On April 29, 2012, she debuted as a member of the sub-unit Girls' Generation-TTS with their first mini album Twinkle.
2015: Solo debut[]
She made her debut as a solo artist on October 7, 2015 with her first mini album I.
2018: Debut with Girls' Generation-Oh!GG[]
On September 5, 2018, she debuted as a member of Girls' Generation's second sub-unit Girls' Generation-Oh!GG with the release of their single "Lil' Touch".
2020: Amazing Saturday[]
On October 20, 2020, it was announced that Taeyeon would be joining the tvN variety show Amazing Saturday as a fixed cast member alongside SHINee's Key and Phantom's Hanhae.[2] Her first appearance took place on November 21.[3]
2021–2022: GOT the beat, Queendom[]
On December 27, 2021, Taeyeon was revealed as a member of GOT the beat, the first sub-unit of SM Entertainment's Girls On Top project.[4] The unit debuted on January 3, 2022, with their first digital single "Step Back".
On January 25, Mnet announced that Taeyeon would be one of the MC's for their reality show, Queendom 2, which aired from March 31 through June 2.[5][6]
2023: Queendom Puzzle, To. X, upcoming releases[]
On April 24, 2023, Mnet announced that Taeyeon, who previously participated as an MC for the reality show Queendom 2, will be returning to her MC position for the spin-off series Queendom Puzzle.[7]
On October 13, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeon is currently preparing for her solo comeback with the goal of releasing it in November.[8] The name of the fifth mini album was revealed to be To. X, set to be released on November 27.[9]
2024: "Heaven", upcoming release[]
On May 8, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeon will be releasing a full-length album and a single in the third quarter of the year.[10] On June 14, it was reported that Taeyeon will be making her comeback with her fourth full-length album in August.[11]
On June 24, Taeyeon released a clip video of "Heaven", which is set to be released on July 8.[12]
On August 8, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeon would make another comeback with her sixth mini album in the fourth quarter of the year.[13]
Personal life[]
Relationship[]
On June 19, 2014, local news source Dispatch reported that Taeyeon and EXO's Baekhyun were dating. Later that day, the news was confirmed by SM Entertainment.[14] On September 14, 2015, it was reported that the couple had broken up after a year of dating due to busy schedules.[15] However, the reports have never been confirmed by SM Entertainment.
Health[]
On June 16, 2019, Taeyeon answered fan questions on Instagram Stories and opened up about her recent struggles with her mental health and coping with depression.[16]
Passing of father[]
On March 9, 2020, coinciding her birthday, both Edaily and SM Entertainment announced the passing of her father due to sudden cardiac arrest. The digital single "Happy", which was intended to release on the same day, was postponed to May 4.[17]

- Her MBTI personality type is ISFJ.[33] Taeyeon revealed she re-took the test and her most recent MBTI is INFJ.
- She is a huge fan of the famous South Korean actor Gang Dong-won (she even met him backstage in the movie My Brilliant Life, in which he was one of the protagonists and she had a cameo alongside the other members of the SNSD's first subunit TaeTiSeo, Tiffany and Seohyun), BoA (she decided to become a singer and K-pop idol after going to one of BoA's concerts), æspa (she is considered one of the most supportive famous fans of the group) and the rising French-American actor Timothée Chalamet (she's seen several of his films, including one of the recent ones he starred in, Dune, which she raved about with her female backup dancers during INVU promotions).[34][35][36][37][38]
- Her favorite foods are Hanjeongsik (Korean full-course meal), Sundaeguk (Korean sausage soup), Tteokbokki, Haejangguk (Korean hangover soup), Patbingsu (Korean shaved ice and red bean dessert), Hiyashi chūka (Japanese cold noodles), and Eomukguk (fish cake soup) with sweet potatoes, which is also her favorite winter food.[39][40]
