Taemin (Korean: 태민; Japanese: テミン) is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actor under BPM Entertainment. He is the maknae of the boy group SHINee and a member of the supergroup SuperM.
He made his solo debut on August 18, 2014 with the mini album Ace.
Career[]
2008: Debut with SHINee[]
On May 25, 2008, he debuted as a member of SHINee with the group's first mini album Replay.
2014: Solo debut with Ace[]
He was the first SHINee member to make his debut as a solo artist on August 18, 2014 with his first mini album Ace.
2019: Debut with SuperM[]
On August 4, 2019, he was revealed as a member of the supergroup SuperM.[2] The group debuted on October 4 with their self-titled mini album.
2024: Departure from SM Entertainment, signing with BPM, Eternal[]
On March 5, 2024, it was announced that Taemin's contract with SM Entertainment will be expiring in March. It was reported that he will not renew and may be signing with BPM Entertainment to manage his solo activities. In response, BPM stated that nothing has been decided as of yet.[3] The next day, Taemin personally announced that he is leaving SM Entertainment.[4] On April 1, BPM Entertainment officially announced that they had signed an exclusive contract with Taemin.[5]
On the last date of the 2024 Taemin Fanmeeting [Never-Never], it was revealed that Taemin will release his fifth mini album in August before going on a world tour.[6] On July 29, he released a teaser for Eternal, set for release on August 19.[7]
Personal life[]
Education[]
In March 2011, he transferred from Chungdam High School to Hanlim Multi Arts School to accommodate for SHINee's Japanese promotions.[8] He graduated on February 10, 2012, but was unable to attend the ceremony due to group promotions.[9]
For college, he attended Myongji University where he majored in Musical and Film.[10]
Dating[]
On April 15, 2025, photos of Taemin and no:ze circulated online where they were seen hugging and linking arms. On April 17, Big Planet Made Entertainment denied dating rumors stating that they are just colleagues.[11]
Military service[]
On April 19, 2021, Taemin revealed he will be the final member of SHINee to enlist as a member of the military band on May 31.[12] On January 14, 2022, it was announced that Taemin would finish the rest of his military service as a public service worker due to worsening symptoms of depression, anxiety and panic disorder.[13] He was discharged on April 4, 2023.[14]

- He is a Roman Catholic; his baptismal name is Francesco.[27]
- He is close friends with Kai, Timoteo, Ha Sung Woon, Jimin, and Ravi.[28]
- The group is often called the "Friendship Parkas Squad" or the "Parka Squad" because they all have matching parkas.[28]
- He is a huge fan of Sia and Michael Jackson.[29][30]
- It was precisely Michael Jackson who made Taemin fall in love with dance: according to him, his love for dance came after watching a show of the King of Pop when he was studying in the sixth grade.[31]
