Taeil (Korean: 태일; Japanese: テイル) is a South Korean singer. He is a former member of the boy group NCT and its sub-units NCT U and NCT 127.

Career[]

2015–2016: Pre-debut[]

In 2013, He was cast into SM Entertainment. He has featured in SMROOKIES events such as SMTown Week, before he was formally introduced on October 13, 2015. On January 26, Taeil released the song "Because Of You" for the soundtrack of the series The Merchant: Gaekju 2015.

2016–2017: Debut with NCT U, NCT 127, "Stay in My Life"[]

On April 9, 2016, he officially debuted as a member of NCT, in the unit NCT U, with the single "Without You".

On July 7, 2016, he debuted in the sub-unit NCT 127 with the mini album, NCT #127.

In 2017, Taeil released the track "Stay in My Life" in collaboration with Doyoung and Taeyong as part of the soundtrack of School 2017.

2018–2019: "Radio Romance", NCT 2018, "New Dream", "Purple"[]

Taeil and Doyoung released the track "Radio Romance" on January 30, 2018, as part of the soundtrack of Radio Romance.

On March 14, 2018, he joined NCT's first full album, NCT 2018 Empathy as part of their NCT 2018 project.

As part of the soundtrack of Dokgo Rewind, Taeil and Jaehyun released the track "New Dream" in September 2018.

On March 30, 2019, Taeil featured on Sohlhee's "Purple".

2021–2022: "The Moon", "Love Right Back", "Starlight"[]

Moon Sujin featured Taeil on "The Moon" on April 11, 2021. In October of that year, Taeil, along with Lil Boi, were featured on "Love Right Back" by Raiden.

In 2022, he released "Starlight" as part of the soundtrack of the drama Twenty-Five, Twenty-One.

2023: "Lovey Dovey", "Bandit"[]

On February 9, 2023, Taeil released "Lovey Dovey" as part of the soundtrack of the drama Love to Hate You. He released another soundtrack, "Bandit", on September 22, 2023, for Song of the Bandits.

2024: Departure from NCT, NCT 127 and SM Entertainment[]

On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil would be officially leaving the group following sexual offense allegations.[1]

On October 16, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that the agency terminated their exclusive contract with Taeil as of October 15.[2]

Personal life[]

Hiatus[]

On August 15, 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil had suffered a right thigh fracture due to a motorcycle accident, and will be taking a hiatus from group activities.[3]

On October 18, a new statement was released which announced that Taeil will continue to focus on health recovery, meaning that will not be able to participate in NCT 127’s third tour Neo City - The Unity scheduled for November.[4]

Sexual offense allegations[]

On August 28, 2024, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station announced that Taeil was booked for alleged sexual offense after a report was filed in June. SM Entertainment later stated that both the agency and Taeil learned about the indictment around the middle of the month.[1] The accuser is reported to be an adult woman however, the specific charges and the time of the crime have not been released.[5] On October 7, Chosun Ilbo reported that Taeil is currently being investigated under the suspicion of aggravated quasi-rape for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman with two of his acquaintances. He was transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office on September 12. In response, SM Entertainment stated that it is difficult to comment as the case is still under investigation.[6] In a statement released on October 16 by SM Entertaiment, it was revealed that Taeil is currently under investigation by the prosecution for a criminal case.[2]
