Together as One! Hello, we are TO1!

—TO1

TO1 (티오원), formerly known as TOO (티오오), is an eight-member boy group formed through the survival show World Klass. Originally as 10, they officially debuted on April 1, 2020 with their first mini album Reason for Being : Benevolence.[2]

History[]

2019: World Klass[]

On June 25, 2019, Stone Music Entertainment and n.CH Entertainment announced that they would be launching a new boy group called TOO through a new global survival program to be aired on Mnet in September.[3] Their name is an acronym for "Ten Oriented Orchestra".[4]

On July 3, a teaser video was released, revealing the show's title to be World Klass.[5] The 20 trainees were introduced starting on July 10.[6] The show premiered on October 4.

On December 6, the top 10 winners were announced through the live finale.[7] Two days later, n.CH announced that Han Jun, who made it to the final lineup after placing third, would not be joining the group due to partaking in an unauthorized leave and disreputable scandal when he was a trainee. He was replaced by Jae Yun, who had the next highest number of votes on the show.[8]

2020: Debut with Reason for Being : Benevolence, Road to Kingdom, Running TOOgether[]

On February 20, 2020, TOO released an introduction film, revealing their debut date to be on March 18.[9] The first individual teaser was released on February 27, starting with member J.You.[10]

On March 5, Stone Music and n.CH announced that TOO's debut album promotions would be partially rescheduled.[11] A new schedule was posted on March 9 revealing their debut had been delayed to April 1.[2] Their debut mini album, Reason for Being : Benevolence, was released on April 1 with "Magnolia" as the title track.

On March 20, Mnet confirmed the 7 boy groups participating in Road to Kingdom with TOO being one of them. The premiere date was then set to be on April 30.[12]

On April 11, the group announced their fandom would be called TOOGETHER.[1]

Road to Kingdom then officially began and was aired on April 30 with an online vote beforehand, from March 30 to April 5.[13] During the 90 seconds performances, they danced to "Into the dysTOOpia", which was a remixed version of "Magnolia" to introduce themself and ranked seventh.[14] During the first round, which was to perform a "king's melody", they had covered "Rising Sun" by TVXQ! and ranked fourth during the first round.[15][16] During the second round, which was to perform your own song, they performed "Magnolia".[17] They had ranked sixth during the second round, which was determined 30% by the contestants and 70% through votes of an online audience. The next round was a collaborative mission where the groups were randomly chosen to become a pair and prepare a performance together. In the end, TOO was partnered with VERIVERY and they both agreed to perform "On" by BTS where they ranked second out of 3 teams.[18] Overall, it was revealed that their cumulative score was fifth out of 6 teams, meaning they were at risk of eliminations. For the next round, their partners from the previous round had to choose a song for them to cover.[19] The song "Hard Carry" by GOT7 was chosen for them and so they visited GOT7 before a music show for advice on performing their own song.[20] Unfortunately, they had ranked last and was eliminated in the seventh episode.[21]

On June 12, TOO announced they would be making a comeback in July with their second mini album.[22] The album titled Running TOOgether was released on July 15 with "Count 1, 2" as the title track.

2021: Management dispute between CJ ENM and n.CH, name change, re-debut with Re:Born, Re:alize[]

On January 13, 2021, it was reported that CJ ENM had terminated their contract with n.CH Entertainment seven months after TOO's debut and ordered the agency to withdraw all management work for the group. Due to this, the release schedule for the group's third album was also delayed.[23] The following day, n.CH Entertainment issued a statement that details the dispute including not receiving the final management contract for months, that no formal contract was ever signed, unexpected changes to the contract terms, and not being paid for expenses since August 2020.[24]

On January 19, CJ ENM released a statement confirming that they terminated their contract with n.CH Entertainment after being unable to reach an agreement. CJ ENM will take full management over the group.[25]

On March 28, at their performance at KCON:TACT 3, TOO announced they changed their name to TO1 as well as dropping an "O" from their fandom name making it TOgether. All their SNS accounts have also been rebranded.[26]

On April 25, the group announced their first mini album under their new name, scheduled to release in May.[27] On May 4, it was confirmed that the album, titled Re:Born, would be released on May 20.[28]

On May 18, it was revealed that TO1 would be under CJ ENM's new music label, WAKEONE.[29]

On October 20, the group announced their second mini album, Re:alize, to be released on November 4.[30]

On December 28, WAKEONE announced that Woong Gi would be going on a hiatus due to his anxiety. The group will continue to promote as a nine-member group until his return.[31]

2022: Chi Hoon's departure, group hiatus, lineup changes, Why Not??, UP2U[]

On April 30, 2022, WAKEONE announced that Chi Hoon would be leaving the group and terminating his exclusive contract with the agency.[32]

On May 24, WAKEONE announced on TO1's official fan cafe that the group would be halting all scheduled activities including social media activities. They will use this time to reorganize the group, recharge and prepare for their next album.[33]

On June 17, WAKEONE announced that Min Su, Jerome, and Woong Gi had left the group and that three new members would be joining: Daigo, Renta, and Yeo Jeong. It was also revealed that TO1 would be making a comeback with a new album in July.[34] On July 8, TO1 announced their third mini album, Why Not??, to be released on July 28.[35]

On November 7, TO1 announced their fourth mini album, UP2U, to be released on November 23.[36]

2023: "Hug", Renta's departure, departure from WAKEONE[]

On March 4, 2023, TO1 announced their special single album, "Hug", to be released on March 9.[37]

On May 17, all nine members opened personal Instagram accounts.[38]

On September 22, member Renta announced through a post on his Instagram account containing a letter in both Korean and Japanese that he would be leaving TO1.[39]

On December 17, WAKEONE announced that all members decided not to renew their contracts with the agency. Their contracts will end on December 31.[40]
