—THE BOYZ

THE BOYZ (더보이즈) is an 11-member boy group under IST Entertainment. Originally as 12, they debuted on December 6, 2017 with the mini album The First.

History[]

Pre-debut[]

On July 4, 2017, Cre.ker Entertainment announced their first pre-debut boy group Cre.Kerz, through their SNS accounts.[3]

From August 23 to October 11, 2017, their first reality show Flower Snack aired, resulting in the release of their pre-debut special MV titled "I'm Your Boy".[4]

On October 28, 2017, they held their first fanmeeting THE BOYZ <Heart To Heart> for 1,000 fans.[5]

2017: "I'm Your Boy" and debut with The First[]

On October 11, 2017, they released the pre-debut special MV titled "I'm Your Boy".

On December 6, THE BOYZ debuted with their first mini album The First. The mini album included the previously released pre-debut special song "I'm Your Boy".

2018: The Start, "Keeper", "The Sphere", and The Only[]

On March 28, 2018, Cre.ker announced that Hwall would not be participating in the group's second mini album as he was diagnosed with a posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. He was then told that he would need three months of recovery after getting surgery.[6]

On April 3, THE BOYZ then had their first comeback with the release of their second mini album The Start. The mini album was promoted as 11 members.

On July 12, they released the special single "Keeper".

On September 5, they came back with their first single album "The Sphere".

On November 29, THE BOYZ released their third mini album The Only.

2019: "Bloom Bloom", Dreamlike, Hwall's departure, Japanese debut, and "White"[]

On April 29, 2019, THE BOYZ came back with their second single album "Bloom Bloom".

On July 20, it was announced that Hwall would be going on a hiatus due to health reasons.[7]

On August 29, the group released their fourth mini album Dreamlike, which was promoted as 11 members as Hwall was on a hiatus.

On October 23, Cre.ker revealed that Hwall would be leaving the group due to issues with his health.[8]

On November 6, THE BOYZ made their Japanese debut with the release of their first Japanese mini album Tattoo. It is also the first release since Hwall's departure.

On December 6, they released the second special single "White", which is a remake of the Fin.K.L song of the same title.

2020: Reveal, Road to Kingdom, Chase, and "Christmassy!"[]

On February 10, 2020, THE BOYZ had their first comeback of the year with the release of their first studio album Reveal.

On March 20, it was confirmed that THE BOYZ would be one of the seven groups participating in the Mnet reality show Road to Kingdom.[9]

On June 12, they then released the song "Checkmate" as a part of the digital EP Road to Kingdom Final for the final comeback competition. During the final episode, which was aired on June 18, it was announced that THE BOYZ had won the show, making them able to compete in the Mnet show Kingdom: Legendary War.

On September 21, they released their fifth mini album Chase.

On December 7, they released their third special single "Christmassy!", which was first performed for their online fan-con “The Film Festival” on December 5.[10]

2021: Breaking Dawn, Kingdom, "Drink It", Thrill-ing, "Maverick", and "Candles"[]

On March 17, THE BOYZ had their first Japanese comeback with the release of their first Japanese studio album Breaking Dawn.

On July 11, they released their first digital single "Drink It", which was the eighth release of the UNIVERSE Music project.

On August 9, they released their sixth mini album Thrill-ing.

On November 1, they came back with their third single album "Maverick".

On December 6, they released with their fourth special single "Candles" as part of their special ‘The Azit: Field Day’ promotions to celebrate their fourth anniversary.[11]

2022: Eric's hiatus, She's The Boss, "Sweet", Be Aware, Sunwoo's hiatus, "All About You"[]

On March 2, THE BOYZ participated in the OST for the Webtoon Solo Leveling with the release of the song "Echo".

On March 4, it was announced by IST Entertainment that Eric would be going on a hiatus to focus on recovering due to health issues. As a result, the group will be promoting as 10 members until his return.[12]

On March 30, THE BOYZ announced their world tour THE BOYZ World Tour: The B-Zone.[13]

On May 27, THE BOYZ released their second Japanese mini album She's The Boss.

On June 17, they will release their second digital single "Sweet", which was the 21st release of the UNIVERSE Music project.

On July 22, IST Entertainment announced that THE BOYZ will be making a comeback on August 16 with their seventh mini album.[14] A teaser titled "Wings of Desire" was released on July 25.[15] On the midnight of August 1, 2022, the group released the artwork animation for their upcoming mini album, titled Be Aware.[16]

On August 30, it was announced by IST Entertainment that Sunwoo would be going on a hiatus to focus on recovering due to health issues. As a result, the group will be promoting as 9 members until his return.[17]

On September 16, IST Entertainment released the following statement on the group’s official fan café to update fans on the members’ health and announced that Eric and Sunwoo will soon be rejoining group activities.[18]

On November 28, an album cover was released, teasing the release of their fifth special single, "All About You". The single will be released on December 6.[19]

2023: Here is, Be Awake, "The Poyz Nolza", "The Poyz Banana Chacha", Delicious, Phantasy, Ju Haknyeon's hiatus, "Dear."[]

On January 5, a representative from IST Entertainment announced that THE BOYZ is in the final stage of preparations for a comeback in February, which would be Eric's first comeback since going on hiatus last March, and his subsequent return in September.[20] On January 29, it was announced that they will make their comeback on February 20 with their eighth mini album Be Awake, which was moved earlier from February 27.[21]

On January 17, they released their first Japanese digital EP Here is for the anime FLAGLIA.[22]

On April 15, the group announced the collaboration digital single "The Poyz Nolza", which will be released on April 23 to celebrate Pororo's 20th anniversary.[23]

On May 5, the group released the collaboration digital single "The Poyz Banana Chacha", to celebrate Children's Day.[24]

On June 13, THE BOYZ released their second Japanese studio album Delicious.[25]

On July 20, Sports Seoul reported that THE BOYZ would be making their comeback with their second full-length album Phantasy, in which IST Entertainment confirmed the reports hours later.[26] The album will be released in three parts, with [Phantasy] Pt.1 Christmas In August being released on August 7, and [Phantasy] Pt.2 Sixth Sense and [Phantasy] Pt.3 Love Letter being released later this year.

On October 19, News1 reported that THE BOYZ will be releasing the second part of their second full-length album Phantasy in November.[27] On October 24, the release date for Pt.2 of their album was revealed to be set for November 20.[28]

On November 16, IST Entertainment announced that Ju Haknyeon will be going on hiatus due to disc stenosis in his lower back.[29]

On December 6, THE BOYZ released their sixth special single "Dear.".[30]

2024: [Phantasy] Pt.3 Love Letter, Gibberish, Trigger[]

On February 28, news source News1 reported the the group is in the final stage of preparations for a March comeback, with IST Entertainment confirming the reports hours later.[31] The next day, it was confirmed that THE BOYZ will be releasing [Phantasy] Pt.3 Love Letter on March 18, with Ju Haknyeon returning from his hiatus.[32]

On June 3, THE BOYZ announced that they will be releasing their third Japanese full-length album, Gibberish, on July 19.[33]

On September 23, TenAsia reported that THE BOYZ is in search of a new agency and planning to leave IST Entertainment as their contract is set to expire in mid-December. According to the report, sources indicate that the group is prioritizing agencies that align with their musical vision and offer a transparent system. They are rumored to be in the final stages of discussions with one specific agency to continue activities as a full team. IST stated that they plan to continue discussions about contract renewal with the members. Additionally, THE BOYZ is reported to be currently in the final stage of preparations for an October comeback.[34]

On October 7, THE BOYZ released a teaser for ther ninth mini album, Trigger, slated for release on October 28.[35]
