Sunshine (썬샤인) is a nine-member kids 'campaign idol' girl group under Kim Youngmin Productions. They debuted on August 20, 2019 with the single "Now Let's Reduce!".
The girl group's concept is to create songs for youth about current issues, such as environmental protection, school violence and traffic safety.
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
In 2019, comedian Kim Youngmin formed the Busan-based kids girl group, Sunshine, made up of elementary and middle school girls.
2019: Debut with "Now Let's Reduce!", member departure, "Eternal Frienddship"[]
On August 20, 2019, the girl group made their official debut with the campaign song "Now Let's Reduce!" which aims to promote environmental protection through appropriate waste disposal.[1]
By the end of the year, one member had departed, through preparations were underway for first comeback single. The comeback was eventually released on December 13, 2019, titled "Eternal Friendship". This second single is also a campaign song; aimed at youths to raise awareness of school violence.[2]
2020-2021: COVID-19 difficulties, "Into The Forest", Lineup changes, Sunshine[]
During the first half of 2020, three members departed due to difficulties imposed by COVID-19. However, with the five remaining members, Sunshine went onto release their third digital single, "Into The Forest", on August 4, 2020. The single is a follow up to their debut single and is also about environmental protection, though this time the theme is planting trees to turn the world into a forest.[3]
On April 9, 2021, Sunshine released their first self-titled mini album, Sunshine, which features several new members; the album readdresses the issues of school violence.[4]
