Sooyoung (수영) is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actress under SARAM Entertainment. She is a member of the girl group Girls' Generation and a former member of the Japanese-Korean duo route φ.
She made her solo debut in December 20, 2018 with the digital single "Winter Breath".
Career[]
2002–2003: route φ[]
Sooyoung originally debuted as a member of the Japanese-Korean duo route φ on April 26, 2002 with their first single "Start". The duo was short-lived, however, disbanding sometime in 2003.[2]
2007–2017: Debut with Girls' Generation, departure from SM Entertainment[]
She debuted as a member of Girls' Generation on August 5, 2007 with the group's first single "Into the New World".
Sooyoung made her acting debut in November 2007 through the KBS2 sitcom Unstoppable Marriage.
On October 9, 2017, SM Entertainment announced that Sooyoung, alongside Tiffany and Seohyun, had decided not to renew their contracts with the agency.[3]
2017–present: Agency changes, solo debut with "Winter Breath", Japanese debut[]
On November 10, 2017, Echo Global Group announced that Sooyoung had signed on with the agency.[4]
Sooyoung made her solo debut on December 20, 2018 with her first digital single "Winter Breath".
On May 7, 2019, SARAM Entertainment announced that Sooyoung had signed on with the agency.[5]
On June 15, 2023, JTBC announced that Sooyoung will be the MC for their reality show, R U Next?, which airs on June 30.[6]
On August 29, 2024, Sooyoung announced that she will debut in Japan with the single "Unstoppable", which will be released on October 30.[7]

On January 2, 2014, local news outlet Sports Seoul reported that Sooyoung and actor Jung Kyung-ho had been dating since September 2012. Later that day, the reports were confirmed by both agencies.[8]
