Soar is the second full-length album by Doyoung. It was released on June 9, 2025 with "Memory" serving as the album's title track.
The physical album comes in three versions: Crack of Dawn, Be My Light and Imprinted Memory (QR).
Background[]
On February 10, 2025, SM Entertaiment revealed that Doyoung will be releasing his second full-length album in the second quarter of the year.[1] On April 18, it was announced that Doyoung will release his second full-length album on June 9.[2] On May 19, NCT announced that Doyoung would be releasing his second full-length album, Soar, on June 9.[3]
Composition[]
"Wake From The Dark" is a modern rock song with a lyrical guitar melody and a warm keyboard sound that heightens the emotion of soaring above the world. It depicts the moment when one wakes up from sleep and prepare to flap ones wings to fly toward the sky.[4]
"Still" is described as a pop rock song with a lyrical piano, weighty strings, and modern band sounds that creating deep resonance. It showcases the process of those who have been constantly wandering between reality and ideals finding their true selves with a calm mind.[5]
"First Step" is a bossa nova pop genre song with a soft piano, jazz bass, and vintage strings. It explores the excitement and fear felt when riding a bicycle for the first time, saying it's okay to get lost once in a while, and giving courage like a warm wind pushing everyone towards their dreams.[6]
"Be My Light" expresses the desire to be the most welcoming light at the end of each other's dawn. The string melody unfolds like a ray of light in our tiring daily lives, added to a refreshing band sound.[7]
The title track "Memory" is a rock genre song that contains the wish that all the moments spent together will remain as brilliant memories for a long time, becoming a universe that is a shelter we can lean on during bleak days, even for relationships that came to an end. Doyoung's powerful vocals and cool guitar riffs combine to explode with overwhelming emotions.[8]
"Just Friends" is a ballad with a delicate acoustic guitar sound. The lyrics talk about the heartbreaking yet sad feelings of unrequited love when the other person doesn't notice.[9]
"Sonnet" is a modern rock song with impressive instrumental sounds centered on a variety of guitar sounds. The lyrics express gratitude to the precious people who silently stayed by Doyoung's side even when he thought he had lost everything.[9]
"Luminous" is a ballad that expresses the depth of emotions through the growth from delicate and weighty keyboards to magnificent string sounds. The lyrics express the contradictory feelings of inner longing for freedom but also wanting to turn away from it.[10]
"Eternity" is an alternative rock song with a strong electric guitar. It talks about the faith and certainty that two people will meet again in the future instead of the pain of separation from having to be momentarily apart.[11]
The harmony of the guitar from "Sand Box" gradually expands the sound over a dreamy Moog Synth, giving the feeling of walking somewhere under the cool night sky. The song contains the hope to make our hearts brighten a little more beautifully during the sometimes difficult journey of life.[12]
Commercial performance[]
According to Hanteo Chart, Soar sold 401,039 copies in the first week of its release, breaking his previous first-week sales record.[13]
