SMROOKIES (에스엠루키즈) is a pre-debut team of trainees formed by SM Entertainment. The team consists of young trainees who have not yet debuted in an idol group or as a solo artist. The project has produced groups such as Red Velvet, NCT (NCT U, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, NCT WISH), aespa, RIIZE and MYTRO.

Rookies[]

Rookies are trainees who are part of the SMROOKIES project. Previously, they were sorted according to the year they joined the project and their gender, in which for example, S stood for SM Entertainment, 'R for "rookies", two numbers to represent the year they joined, and "G" or "B" to specify their gender.

Later in 2025, SM Entertainment revealed that they made changes to their trainee project groupings, and introduced SMTR25, in which S stood for SM Entertainment, TR for "trainees" and 25 for the number of trainees.[1][2][3][n 1]
