RM (short for Real Me[1], formerly Rap Monster and Runch Randa) is a South Korean rapper-songwriter and producer under BigHit Music. He is the leader and main rapper of the boy group BTS.
He made his official solo debut on December 2, 2022 with his first full-length album Indigo.
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
Pre-debut, he became known as Runch Randa as an underground rapper.[2] He then signed with Big Hit Entertainment.
2013: BTS[]
He made his debut as a member of BTS on June 13, 2013 with the group's first single album "2 Cool 4 Skool".
2015: "P.D.D", "Bucku Bucku", RM, "U", "Fantastic",[]
RM released "P.D.D", a single with Warren G, on March 4, 2015. In the same month, he featured on MFBTY's song "Bucku Bucku" alongside EE and Dino J. On March 17, he released his first mixtape, RM.
Along with Kwon Jin Ah, RM featured on Primary's "U" in April that year.
In August, he released "Fantastic" featuring Mandy Ventrice as part of Fantastic Four's Korean soundtrack.
2017: "Change", "Gajah", "Champion"[]
RM collaborated with Wale on the track "Change", which was released in March 2017.
A month later, Gaeko featured RM on his song "Gajah".
In December of 2017, Fall Out Boy featured RM on a remix of their song "Champion".
2018-2019: Mono, "Timeless", "Crying Over You", "Seoul Town Road"[]
RM released his second mixtape, Mono, on October 23, 2018. In November that year, RM collaborated with Tiger JK on the track "Timeless", part of Tiger JK's final album under the stage name Drunken Tiger.
"Crying Over You" was released by Honne as a remake on March 27, 2019, featuring RM along with BEKA. On July 24, 2019, RM featured on a remix of Lil Nas X's single "Old Town Road", which was retitled "Seoul Town Road".
2020-2021: "Winter Flower", "Don't"[]
RM featured on "Winter Flower", which was released by Younha on January 6, 2020.
On April 30, 2021, he also featured on "Don't" by eAeon.
2022: "Sexy Nukim", Solo debut[]
RM was featured on Balming Tiger's "Sexy Nukim" in September.On November 1, BigHit Music announced that RM will be releasing a solo album and that it is currently in preparations.[3] On November 11, it was revealed that he will release his first full-length album Indigo on December 2.[4]
2023: "Smoke Sprite", "Don't Ever Say Love Me"[]
In 2023, RM featured on two tracks. The first, released on March 14, is "Smoke Sprite" by So!yoON!, and "Don't Ever Say Love Me", released by Colde in May, is the second.
2024: "Come Back to Me", Right Place, Wrong Person[]
On April 26, it was announced he will be releasing his second full-length album Right Place, Wrong Person on May 24.[5] "Come Back to Me" was pre-released on May 10.
Personal life[]
Military service[]
On November 22, 2023, BigHit announced that RM started his military enlistment process and further updates will later be shared.[6] On December 5, BigHit Music announced that RM is about to start their military service, without providing an exact date due to safety reasons.[7] He eventually enlisted on December 11.[8][9] He will be discharged on June 10, 2025.[citation needed]
