PoshGirls (Korean: 파시걸스; Japanese: ポッシュガールズ) is an independent three-member girl group. Originally as eight, they made their debut on August 18, 2021 with the mini album S.O.G:Songs Of Goddess.
Their name is a compound word of the words 'Posh' meaning elegant and 'Girls', and has the meaning of elegant girls singing hopes and dreams.[1]
The group initially disbanded on March 1, 2023 due to company management issues which made it hard to operate.
History[]
2021: Debut with S.O.G:Songs of Goddess, Jiwoo, Doyeon and Yejin departures[]
On July 1, 2021, No.1 Media (previously known as Zenith Media Contents) announced that they would be debuting a Korean-Japanese girl group called PoshGirls in mid-August. The group will consist of four Korean and four Japanese members and that their debut mini album will be released simultaneously in Korea and Japan.[1]
On August 10, 2021, it was confirmed that PoshGirls would be making their debut on August 18 and will use Hallyu wave cultural content called "Z-Pop".[2]
In October 2021, it was revealed that Jiwoo, Doyeon and Yejin had left the group for unknown reasons.[citation needed]
2022: PoshGirls-J, PoshGirls-K, "Alien"[]
On February 8, 2022, it was announced that PoshGirls will have a sub-unit made of the Japanese line (Miyu, Riona, Niina, Tsugumi) named PoshGirls-J.[3]
On March 15, 2022, they announced the second sub-unit, PoshGirls-K made of the Korean line (Jiin, Yeny and new member Seah) with a post about a cover collaboration remake of the song Got Chu of the metal Korean band CRASH.[4]
On May 14, 2022, it was announced that PoshGirls-J will make their debut on June 22, 2022 in Japan with the mini album Lali:lala.[5]
On November 29, PoshGirls released a teaser image for their first single, "Alien", which will be released on December 9.[6] On December 1, it was announced that a new Japanese member Lili would be joining the group, and the group would be performing as 5 members.[7]
2023: Initially disbandment, restart, Lili's departure and Saya's addition[]
On March 1, it was announced that the group had disbanded due to company management issues, with plans of Miyu, Riona and Lili re-debuting as a three-member group at a later time. As a result, Tsumugi and Niina would be effectively leaving the group and agency.[8]
On April 6, it was revealed that the group had reformed and they will continue with three members, Miyu, Riona and Lili.[9]
On May 1, it was announced that Lili has left the group, and a new member, Saya, would be joining the group.[10]
