"Poet | Artist" is the first single album by SHINee. It was released on May 25, 2025 with "Poet | Artist" serving as the title track.

The physical album comes in six versions: Photobook and five characters NFC versions (Firstborn, Secondborn, Thirdborn, Fourthborn, and Maknae).

Background[]

On February 10, 2025, SM Entertaiment revealed that SHINee will be releasing a single in the second quarter of the year.^[1] On May 12, it was confirmed that SHINee will be releasing a single on May 25 to celebrate their 17th anniversary.^[2] On May 19, they announced the single album "Poet | Artist".^[3]

Composition[]

The title track "Poet | Artist" is described as an electro-pop song that harmonizes the main theme of the song - the vocal riff - with an aggressive snare and reggae rhythm. Member Jonghyun participated in writing the lyrics and composing the song. The lyrics speak about applying literary and poetic license as a poet and an artist not only to works of art but also to the everyday life, breaking the mold and creating something new together.^[4]

Meanwhile, "Starlight" is a medium-tempo dance-pop song with a funky electric guitar sound and synth pads creating a refreshing feeling. The lyrics compare the emotions one feel when first meeting someone and seeing them shine like stars in the darkness.^[5]
