PURETTY (ピュリティ) was a five-member girl group formed by DSP Media. They debuted in Japan on September 5, 2012 with their first single, "Check It☆Love". The group effectively disbanded on May 18, 2014.

Their name is a portmanteau of the words "pure" and "pretty."

History[]

2012–2013: Introduction, debut with "Check It☆Love", and "Shuwa Shuwa Baby"[]

On January 31, 2012, DSP Media introduced their upcoming girl group, tentatively named DSP Girls. The group would debut through the anime series Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future, co-produced in Japan and Korea. DSP Girls would first debut in Japan with their debut single to be released in July and in Korea in the second half of the year.[1]

On September 5, 2012, PURETTY released their debut single, "Check It☆Love". The group released their second single, "Shuwa Shuwa Baby", on Janauary 13, 2013. Both singles were used as the ending themes for Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future.

2014: Presumed disbandment[]

On May 17, 2014, Shiyoon and Chaekyung were revealed as second and fourth candidates, respectively, for the audition show KARA Project.[2] On May 18, 2014, Somin was introduced as the project's fifth candidate.[3] It was also revealed that PURETTY's official website was updated that same morning, announcing that Hyein would pursue her dream to become an actress and Jaeeun would graduate from the group to focus on her studies.[4] The group has presumably disbanded due to inactivity, with their official website's last post on August 22, 2014,[5] and the remaining members moving on to join other groups and shows.

Aftermath[]

Hyein is currently an actress under High Entertainment under her full name, Yoo Hye In.[6]

In 2016, Shiyoon and Chaekyung participated as contestants on Produce 101, ranking #41 and #16, respectively. Chaekyung would later on become a member of the project groups C.I.V.A and I.B.I (before their respective disbandments), eventually debuting as a new member of APRIL on January 4, 2017.

Somin would go on to debut as a member of DSP's next girl group APRIL on August 24, 2015 before leaving the group in November of that same year. She would then debut as part of the co-ed group KARD, on July 19, 2017.
