"OMG" is the first single album by NewJeans. It was released on January 2, 2023 with "OMG" serving as the single's title track.
"Ditto" was pre-released on December 19, 2022.
The physical album comes in seven versions: Weverse Albums and six member-specific Message card.
Background[]
On October 18, 2022, ADOR announced that NewJeans was preparing for their first-ever comeback.[1] A month later, on November 10, the comeback's work, title, format, and release date were officially announced.[2]
Commercial performance[]
YG PLUS revealed that as of January 2, "OMG" surpassed 800,000 pre-orders.[3]
"OMG" sold 480,000 copies in its first day of release on Hanteo which breaks their previous first week sales record in just one day. The song "OMG" reached #1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in 9 different countries. On Bugs and Melon's real time chart, it reached #2 and on Genie's real time chart it reached #1.[4] In one week, the album sold 701,241 copies on Hanteo which not only breaks their previous record, but also doubles it.[5]
On January 7, Oricon announced that "OMG" reached #1 on their daily singles chart with 20,638 copies sold on the first day of its release in Japan, making NewJeans the first rookie girl group to top the chart.[6] Additionally, they topped Oricon's weekly single rankings chart for the week of January 2 to 8.[7]
Circle Chart reported that during the week of January 1 to January 7, "OMG" sold 796,648 copies.[8] On January 27, Circle Chart revealed that "OMG" has reached 1,013,462 copies which makes it NewJeans' first album to surpass 1 million copies sold and the seventh Kpop girl group to do so.[9] In the monthly update for January, Circle Chart reported that "OMG" sold 1,027,772 copies during the month.[10] On March 9, 2023, "OMG" received a triple platinum certification for reaching 750,000 accumulated copies sold. The Weverse versions of the album received a platinum certification for reaching 250,000 copies sold.[11] On May 11, 2023, the album received a million certification for reaching 1 million accumulated copies sold.[12]
"OMG" debuted at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart which makes NewJeans the third Kpop group to enter the chart.[13] The song peaked at #74,[14] and spent six consecutive weeks on the chart.[15]
On August 23, 2023, the Recording Industry Association of Japan reported that "OMG" received a platinum certification for reaching 100 million streams.[16]
"OMG" was ranked #77 on the 2024 Billboard Japan's Hot 100 year end chart.[17]
