On May 5, 2015, she became a contestant on JYP's newest survival show, SIXTEEN. She finished the survival in 2nd place, hence becoming a member of the girl group TWICE.[1] They officially debuted on October 20, 2015 with their first mini album, The Story Begins.

Nayeon was originally set to debut in the girl group 6mix.
Instead of entering a cram school to study harder, Nayeon secretly attended JYP Entertainment's 7th Open Audition and became a trainee. She halted university studies during Sixteen, but is majoring in film studies.[2]
Nayeon is a fan of other K-pop girl groups, including f(x) and OH MY GIRL.
She is often considered the "Fake Maknae" of the group because of her childish antics
