"My Universe" is a collaboration single by Coldplay and BTS . It was released on September 24, 2021 as the second single from Coldplay's ninth studio album Music of the Spheres.

Background

On July 15, 2021, rumors of a collaboration between BTS and British rock group Coldplay began circulating after lyrics of a new song by Coldplay titled "My Universe" were uploaded on the music lyric database site MatchLyric and audio leaks that contained the voices of Coldplay's Chris Martin and BTS's Jungkook. In response, Warner Music Korea and BigHit Music explained that "It's difficult to confirm the related content."

Coldplay officially confirmed the collaboration on September 13 after releasing a teaser image for their upcoming single, "My Universe". A limited edition CD single was also made available for pre-order.

The song and its accompanying music video were released on September 24, 2021. A documentary titled Inside My Universe was released at 8AM EST on September 26.

Versions

A Supernova 7 mix and acoustic version of "My Universe" were released at 7PM EST on September 26, 2021. A remix by BTS's Suga was released on October 18. This was followed with a remix by Swedish electronic duo Galantis on November 5 and by French DJ David Guetta on November 19.

Commercial performance

"My Universe" debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart dated October 9, 2021. It became Coldplay's second and BTS's sixth number-one single on the chart. The song earned 11.5 million streams, 5.5 million radio audience impressions, and sold 127,000 digital and physical copies in the week of its release.

On September 24, Atlantic Records announced that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) had awarded "My Universe" a platinum certification for selling over 1 million units.

The Recording Industry Association of Japan reported that "My Universe" has earned a gold certification for reaching 50 million streams in Japan.

On January 6, 2023, British Phonographic Industry revealed that "My Universe" surpassed 600,000 units sold in the United Kingdom, making it certified platinum.

On February 28, 2023, the France’s National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing reported that "My Universe" received a platinum certification for reaching 30 million streams in France. On July 19, it received a diamond certification for reaching 50 million streams.
