Minisode 2: Thursday's Child (stylized as minisode 2: Thursday's Child) is the fourth mini album by TXT. It was released on May 9, 2022 with "Good Boy Gone Bad" serving as the album's title track.
The physical album comes in four versions: Hate, End, Mess, and Tear.
Background[]
On April 6, 2022, Star News reported that TXT would be making a comeback in early May, and BigHit Music confirmed the reports in response.[1] On April 14, a teaser video was posted which announced that they will be coming back on May 9 with Minisode 2: Thursday's Child.[2]
Promotions[]
TXT held a global media showcase to celebrate the release of the album on May 9 at 3pm KST.[3] 'Tomorrow X Together Comeback Show: Thursday's Child' was broadcasted through the Mnet and M2 YouTube channels on the day of release at 8pm KST. During the comeback show, the group performed their new songs from the album, "Good Boy Gone Bad" and "Opening Sequence", for the first time.[4]
They made their first music show appearance at M Countdown on May 12, where they performed "Good Boy Gone Bad" and "Trust Fund Baby".[5]
Composition[]
"Good Boy Gone Bad" is described as a hardcore hip-hop song with rock elements. The lyrics talk about how an innocent boy who's flood with the feeling of anger and the loss of losing their first love. The song is also labeled as the 'Generation Z Farewell Song' that features a very hard hitting melody about a boy who deals with his dark emotions.[6] "Opening Sequence" is described as an alternative R&B song. The lyrics compare the moment of breaking up with someone to the 'opening sequence' of a movie which is usually a flashback.[6] "Trust Fund Baby" is described as a pop ballad mixed with indie pop. The lyrics talk about the boy's story.[6] "Lonely Boy" is described as a contemporary R&B song. The lyrics are about a boy who has just had their first break up sees the couple tattoo on his fourth finger.[6] "Thursday's Child Has Far To Go" is described as retro synth pop song. It's about a boy who begins walking on a new path and starts having a positive mind set after the breakup.[6]
Commercial performance[]
According to YG PLUS, as of April 29, 2022, the album has achieved 1,447,000 pre-orders, doubling their previous personal record.[7]
As of 8 a.m. KST on May 10, the album had hit number 1 on the iTunes Top Albums charts in 43 different regions. The tile track "Good Boy Gone Bad" also topped the iTunes Top Songs charts in 19 regions around the world.[8]
On May 10, Hanteo Chart announced that the album had already soared past 1 million sales in less than 2 days, making TXT the second-fastest artist in Hanteo history to have an album hit the 1 million mark. On May 15, Hanteo Chart revealed that in the first week of its release (May 9 to 15), Minisode 2: Thursday's Child sold a total of 1,248,370 copies, nearly doubling TXT's previous first-week sales record. The album has also achieved the eighth-highest first-week sales of any album in Hanteo history.[9]
On May 17, the day of its release in Japan, the album debuted at Number 1 on Oricon's daily album chart after selling 134,746 copies.[10]
The group took home their first music show win for "Good Boy Gone Bad" on May 20 at Music Bank.[11]
On May 21, Minisode 2: Thursday's Child debuted at Number 3 on the Billboard World Albums chart.[12][13]
On May 22, Minisode 2: Thursday's Child debuted at Number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and Number 1 on the Billboard's Top Album Sales chart.[14]
On May 24, Oricon officially announced that TXT had topped its weekly album chart with Minisode 2: Thursday's Child which racked up over 151,000 sales in Japan from May 16 to 22. TXT has now become the first foreign artist in history ever to top its weekly album chart with six consecutive albums.[15]
TXT received a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan for Minisode 2: Thursday's Child.[16]
On May 29, Billboard announced that TXT has become the second male K-pop artist in history to chart an album in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks.[17] Minisode 2: Thursday's Child has spent 14 weeks on the Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, making it the first Kpop album released in 2022 to do so.[18] It also spent 19 weeks on the Billboard World Albums chart.[19]
On February 24, 2023, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry reported that Minisode 2: Thursday's Child charted at #16 on their Global Albums Chart for 2022.[20]
