LILAI (라일라이) was a cancelled four-member project trot girl group. They were intended to be cast in a web drama but due to postponement, the production was eventually cancelled and thus they disbanded.

Their group name is a combination of the words "lilac" and aideul ("children").[1]

History[]

2021–2022: Group formation, Hello Trot & disbandment[]

LILAI was first introduced through a reveal of member Hwasu on August 26, 2021.[2] She was followed by Chaeyun, Yeeun (former Miss Trot 2 contestant) and Seo Minji.[3]

While pre-debut, member Seo Minji departed from the group lineup, which lead to the reveal of their new leader, Seungyeon.[4]

As a group, LILAI appeared as contestants on the competitive show, Hello Trot, which began airing in November 2021.

In late 2022, LILAI disbanded after it was discovered their Naver Cafe was rebranded for a different group. It was later revealed that LILAI was intended to be a project girl group cast for a web drama, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the production of the web drama was indefinitely postponed and eventually cancelled altogether.[5]

Aftermath[]

In the same disbandment announcement, it was disclosed that members Seungyeon and Chaeyun wished to pursue their dreams of becoming trot singers and thus they became members of a new girl group, Martini, formed in late 2022.[5]

The circumstances of Hwasu and Yeeun remain unknown.
