Løren (로렌; also stylized as LØREN) is a South Korean singer-songwriter, producer and DJ under AYLA. He made his debut as a soloist on November 13, 2020 with the digital single "Empty Trash".

Career[]

Pre-debut[]

Between the age of 19 and 20, Lee's main goal was to make rap and dubstep beats. He would send the music he made to people he thought might listen to his work, including The Black Label. They offered Lee the chance to work with them and practice as a producer.[1] In 2015, under the name DJ Boid, he soon went on to Seoul's nightclub scene to hone his skills as an DJ and EDM producer.[2]

Through this work, Lee obtained a producer credit, under the name cawlr, on the song "Bullshit" by G-Dragon. He also worked as a model, posing for W Korea and for the brand of Korean designer Choi Moo-yul, Vlad Vladis.[3] In October 2017, a celebrity launch party hosted by Italian fashion house Fendi called "F is for.." celebrated Taeyang's collection with the brand in Hong Kong.[4] Lee was one of the DJs at the event, alongside other well-known DJs in the Asian music scene.[5]

2020: Work with BLACKPINK, new agency, solo debut with "Empty Trash"[]

He participated in BLACKPINK's first full-length album The Album. He is credited as a co-lyricist on three of the eight tracks: "Pretty Savage", "You Never Know" and "Lovesick Girls"; In the latter, Løren also made a special appearance in the music video.[6] Before that, he featured in two studio live streams with Rosé as a guitarist.[7]

Additionally, on her 25th birthday, Rosé surprised her fans by uploading on her personal Youtube channel three covers of songs by Coldplay, Neck Deep and Oasis, with the help of Løren playing the acoustic guitar.[8]

On November 8, a teaser was posted on The Black Label's official Twitter account, revealing that the singer would debut as a soloist under Fire Exit Records, his independent record label.[9] Two days later, both announced that Løren was preparing for their debut.[10]

On November 12, it was unveiled the first teaser for his debut digital single "Empty Trash", set to be released on the next day.[11] Its a heavy rock track with a raw and punk-infused energy and bilingual lyrics showcased his shift toward alternative rock, garnering attention for amassing millions of streams shortly after release.[12]

On November 13, The Black Label confirmed through the news outlet Newsen that Løren is not under their agency and it is only responsible for online promotion.[13]

2021–2022: "Need (Ooo-eee)", fandom name, "All My Friends Are Turning Blue", first fashion appearances[]

On July 28, 2021, Løren confirmed the release of his second digital single "Need (Ooo-eee)", for the following day.[14] An early-2000s-inspired rock single with bilingual elements that highlighted his guitar-driven style, it is a post-grunge, melancholy punk-pop song, with lyrics which recalls the summers of his childhood.[15]

On September 1, 2021, during an interview with Vice magazine, the singer announced that has signed with the British digital music distribution company AWAL. Also, Løren revealed that the meaning of his fanclub and stage name comes from one of the tattoos on his chest, which reads "LØNER".[16]

On November 19, 2021, The Black Label and Fire Exit Records announced that Løren are preparing for a comeback in the same month.[17] On November 21, a teaser poster revealed that he would be releasing his first English digital single "All My Friends Are Turning Blue", on November 25.[18][19]

Fashion magazine Dazed Korea put Løren on the cover of its 2022 March issue with Rosé. Eight covers were published, all with Rosé and Løren wearing Yves Saint Laurent's fresh collection.[20] He was also spotted at the Paris Fashion Week in March 2022 at Yves Saint Laurent's fashion show by Anthony Vaccarello.[21]

In April, he uploaded on Instagram a photo of him alongside the logo of the fashion brand, Saint Laurent, announcing Løren as a model and representative of Saint Laurent's 2022 Eyewear Campaign.[22] Løren was the first male solo artist from Korea chosen by the brand as their model.[23]

2023: Put Up a Fight, signing with 88rising[]

On March 13, 2023, Fire Exit Records was shut down because the singer signed with the American recording label 88rising, in partnership with The Black Label, for his future projects.[24] On the same day, Løren announced via Instagram that would be releasing his first EP, Put Up a Fight, on March 24.[25] On March 14, The Black Label revealed a credits poster of the album's track list.[26]

After a successful showcase at South by Southwest, Løren performed as part of Coachella's 2023 line-up, marking his first appearance there.[27][28]

2024: "Gasoline"[]

On June 20, 2024, the singer revealed a teaser photo for his upcoming English collaboration digital single with the musical collective 1999 Write The Future, titled "Gasoline", set to be released on June 28.[29][30]

2025: "Fuck Your Neighbor (FYN)", departure from The Black Label, The Waits, "The Waits (Holiday Ver.)"[]

On February 14, 2025, Løren posted a teaser photo, revealing that he would be making his comeback with a release titled "Fuck Your Neighbor (FYN)", sometime in 2025.[31] On March 15, the release date was revealed to be on April 4, 2025.[32]

On April 2, 2025, in a interview with Forbes, Løren announced that had signed an exclusive contract with AYLA, after almost a decade working with The Black Label. The change of record label was motivated by his insertion in the mainstream and American market.[33] It also revealed that he was working with renowned rock producers during his trip to Los Angeles, and confirmed the release of his his upcoming album for later this year.[34]

On October 10, AYLA announced that the singer would hold a party to celebrate the album's release, scheduled to take place four days later; The album set to be released on October 31, 2025.[35] On October 29, the singer unveiled the first teaser for his first English full-length album The Waits, along with the pre-save link.[36]

On November 21, Løren announced that would be release his first English special digital single, "The Waits (Holiday Ver.)", on the same day, along with the digital cover.[37]

He graduated from Singapore American School on 2013.[38] Following his high school graduation, Løren moved to Japan to enroll in a college program focused on liberal studies, aiming to explore broader academic interests amid his growing passion for music. However, he dropped out during his second year, citing a lack of close friendships and a shift toward pursuing music production professionally.[39]
