Krystal (크리스탈; also known by her full name Krystal Jung) is a South Korean-American singer and actress under Beasts and Natives Alike. She is the maknae of the girl group f(x) and a member of the project ballad group S.M. THE BALLAD.

Early life[]

Krystal was born on October 24, 1994 in San Francisco, California, United States. Her older sister is former Girls' Generation member Jessica.

While on a family trip to South Korea in 2000, Krystal and her sister were scouted by SM Entertainment. The agency offered both girls singing and dancing lessons in order to professionally train them for a singing career. However, her parents only allowed Jessica to join the agency at first, as Krystal was too young.[1]

Career[]

Pre-debut[]

In 2006, Krystal's parents finally allowed her to join SM Entertainment. She trained for 3 years before making her idol debut in 2009.[1]

2009: Debut with f(x)[]

She debuted as a member of f(x) on September 5, 2009 with the group's first digital single "La Cha Ta".

On August 18, 2020, it was reported that Krystal had left SM Entertainment, with her being in contact with acting agencies but she has yet to sign a contract.[2] It was later revealed by a SM Entertainment representative that her contract with the agency expires at the end of August and they are currently in discussions of a renewal.[3]

2020: Departure from SM Entertainment[]

On October 12, it was confirmed by H& Entertainment that Krystal had signed on with the agency after deciding not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment.[4]

2024: New agency[]

On February 22, 2024, it was announced that Krystal had signed an exclusive contract with Beasts and Natives. Moreover, the agency revealed plans of her return as a singer.[5]

Education[]

She attended Korea Kent Foreign School. She graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School in February 2013, where she honored an achievement award.[6] She attended Sungkyunkwan University, where she majored in Theater.

Relationship[]

On April 1, 2016, local news source Dispatch reported that she and Kai of EXO were dating and it was confirmed by SM Entertainment on the same day.[7]

On June 1, 2017, SM reported that the couple have broken up due to busy schedules.[8]
