Krystal (크리스탈; also known by her full name Krystal Jung) is a Korean-American singer and actress under H& Entertainment. She is the maknae of the girl group f(x) and a member of the project ballad group S.M. THE BALLAD.

Early life

Krystal was born on October 24, 1994 in San Francisco, California, United States. Her older sister is former Girls' Generation member Jessica.

While on a family trip to South Korea in 2000, Krystal and her sister were scouted by SM Entertainment. The agency offered both girls singing and dancing lessons in order to professionally train them for a singing career. However, her parents only allowed Jessica to join the agency at first, as Krystal was too young.[1]

In 2006, Krystal's parents finally allowed her to join SM Entertainment. She trained for 3 years before making her idol debut in 2009.[1]

She debuted as a member of f(x) on September 5, 2009 with the group's first digital single "La Cha Ta".

On August 18, 2020, it was reported that Krystal had left SM Entertainment, with her being in contact with acting agencies but she has yet to sign a contract.[2] It was later revealed by a SM Entertainment representative that her contract with the agency expires at the end of August and they are currently in discussions of a renewal.[3]

On October 12, it was confirmed by H& Entertainment that Krystal had signed on with the agency after deciding not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment.[4]
