Kris Wu (크리스 우), also known as simply Kris (크리스) is a Chinese-Canadian former singer and actor. He is a former member of the boy group EXO and their subgroup EXO-M. He left the group in May 2014 after filing a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to terminate his contract.

Since leaving the group, he has been active in China as a soloist, and is releasing his music internationally since 2016 under the name Kris Wu.

His career ultimately ended after he was sentenced to jail by the Chinese court.

Personal life[]

Arrest, criminal charges and sentencing[]

On July 31, 2021, news were released that revealed that Kris Wu had been arrested by Beijing police on allegations of rape, including rape of minors, from multiple victims.[2] Several months later, on November 25, 2022, it was announced that he was sentenced to 13 years in jail in total by the Beijing court on multiple offences. In addition to his assault charges, the court decided that after serving his 13 years, he will be deported from China to Canada. It was also revealed that Kris had committed tax-related offences including hiding personal income and thus evading taxes and underpaying; he was ordered to pay 600 million yuan (approximately $83,636,500) in relation to the offence.[3]
