Kim Jong Hyeon (김종현; formerly JR) is a South Korean singer, rapper, lyricist and actor under Evermore Entertainment. He is a former member of the boy group NU'EST. He is also a member of the project group LUNA under the name Shin (신).
He made his solo debut on November 8, 2022 with the mini album Meridiem.
Career[]
2012: NU'EST's debut[]
JR debuted as a member of NU'EST on March 15, 2012 with their first single "Face".
2017–2018: Produce 101 Season 2, NU'EST W[]
In 2017, him, and fellow members Minhyun, Baekho and Ren participated in Mnet's survival reality show Produce 101 Season 2, which he finished in 14th place.
Minhyun was the only member that made to the final 11 to promote with the project group Wanna One, while the other members formed the four-member subgroup NU'EST W (the W in the name means the group is waiting for him to return), as they released three mini albums between 2017 and 2018.
2022: NU'EST's disbandment, new agency and solo debut with Meridiem[]
On February 28, 2022, Pledis Entertainment announced that the NU'EST members' contracts would expire on March 14 and JR decided not to renew with the company.[1]
On May 16, Evermore Entertainment revealed that JR had signed an exclusive contract with them so he could focus on his promotions as a solo artist and actor under his full name Kim Jong Hyeon.[2]
On September 28, the agency confirmed that he will release his solo debut mini album sometime in November.[3] On October 11, a teaser was released for his debut mini album, Meridiem, set to be released on November 8.[4]
2024: Brilliant Seasons[]
On December 14, 2023, a first teaser was posted on Kim Jong Hyeon's social media accounts announcing his first-ever comeback with his second mini album Brilliant Seasons, which would be released on January 3, 2024.[5]

Military service[]
On August 18, 2024, Kim Jong Hyeon personally announced through a live broadcast that he would be enlisting in the military service as an active duty soldier sometime next month. The next day, Evermore Entertainment confirmed that he will be enlisting on September 23.[6]
