Kim Hyun Jae (김현재) is a South Korean rapper and lyricist. He is a former member of the boy group BLACK6IX under the stage name The-King (더킹).

Career[]

2017–2021: BLACK6IX[]

Hyun Jae, then known as The-King, debuted with the boy group BLACK6IX on April 7, 2017 with the release of their first single "Please".

They officially disbanded on April 16, 2021.[1]

2023: Peak Time[]

In February 2023, he was revealed as a contestant of JTBC's reality survival show Peak Time, as part of TEAM 24:00.[2] However, on March 13, he announced that he stepped down from the show following allegations of school violence.[3]

2024: Project 7[]

On September 26, 2024, he was officially introduced as a contestant of Project 7.[4] On November 29, he was eliminated in episode 8 after ranking 44th place.[5]

Personal life[]

School bullying allegations[]

On March 13, 2023, allegations of school violence against Kim Hyun Jae spread online. He originally denied, but eventually announced to have stepped down from Peak Time while waiting to be proven innocent.[3]

On July 10, 2024, he announced through his Instagram that one of his former elementary/middle school classmate was found guily by the Seoul Central District Court for making false school bullying accusations. The court ruled that the accuser would be responsible for paying Kim Hyun Jae damages.[6]
