Kang Daniel (Korean: 강다니엘, Japanese: カンダニエル; or Daniel) is a South Korean singer, lyricist and actor under ARA. He is a former member of the project boy group Wanna One.
As a soloist, he also goes by the name Daniel K. He made his solo debut on July 25, 2019 with his first special album Color On Me.[4][5]
Career[]
2017-2018: Produce 101 Season 2, Wanna One[]
In April 2017, Kang Daniel was revealed to be a contestant in the reality survival show Produce 101 Season 2 representing MMO Entertainment. In the finale, he finished in 1st place and subsequently became the center of Wanna One.[6]
Wanna One debuted on August 7, 2017 with 1X1=1 (To Be One). The group released their final album 1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny) on November 19, 2018 and concluded activities on December 31.[7]
2019: New agencies, solo debut with Color On Me, "Touchin'"[]
On January 21, 2019, through a live broadcast on Instagram, Kang Daniel shared that he might be debuting in April.[8]
Following Wanna One's disbandment on February 1, Daniel transferred from MMO to LM Entertainment[9] and opened various SNS accounts.[10]

However, on March 3, news outlet Market News reported that Kang Daniel had asked to terminate his contract. LM Entertainment explained that it was a request to modify clauses in the contract and not to terminate it.[11] Kang Daniel revealed that it all started when he asked access to his SNS accounts so he could personally post updates.[12] On March 21, he applied for the suspension of his exclusive contract with LM Entertainment because the agency signed joint business contracts that sell his exclusive contract rights to third parties without his consent.[13] LM Entertainment denied all claims.[14] The questioning was revealed to take place on April 5 at 2 p.m. KST at the Seoul Central District Court[15] but was postponed to April 24.[16][17][18] On May 10, the court accepted Kang Daniel's request to terminate his contract.[19] LM Entertainment announced they plan to appeal the decision.[20] The second court questioning was set to June 12 by the Seoul Central District Court.[21]

On June 10, he founded his own agency known, KONNECT Entertainment, ahead of his solo debut.[22] The agency met with music distributor Kakao M on June 20.[23] On June 23, Kang Daniel posted several photos on his Instagram account, hinting at his debut,[24] and on June 27, KONNECT Entertainment announced that he will debut in late July.[25] On July 11, KONNECT launched a new website with a acountdown for July 12. That day, Kang Daniel revealed a first teaser for his solo debut album, Color On Me, scheduled for July 25, 2019.[26] New SNS accounts were launched on July 18 and 23.[27]
On July 11, LM Entertainment's appeal was rejected by the court.[28] LM decided to appeal to the Seoul High Court on July 17.[29] On September 27, LM Entertainment's objection to the injunction was confirmed to have been canceled.[30]
On November 15, KONNECT Entertainment announced that Kang Daniel would be releasing his first digital single, "Touchin'", on November 25.[31][32]

On February 11, 2020, KONNECT Entertainment confirmed that Kang Daniel is preparing for a comeback.[33] On March 9, he announced that he will be returning on March 24 with his first mini album Cyan.[34]
On March 17, it was announced that Kang Daniel and Zico will be participating in the 2020 Pepsi X Global K-pop Project. The digital single "For The Love of Korea" was released on April 23.[35]
On July 1, Sports DongA reported that Kang Daniel plans to release a new song featuring Simon Dominic on July 25 to celebrate the first anniversary of his solo debut.[36] On July 5, Kang Daniel released a teaser for his second mini album Magenta scheduled for release on August 3, with the pre-release single "Waves" being released on July 27.[37]

On January 4, 2021, it was announced that Kang Daniel will be featured on Inverness' new single "State of Wonder" along with Anthony Russo. The single was released on January 15.[38]
On January 21, KONNECT Entertainment confirmed that Kang Daniel is preparing for a February comeback.[39] On February 1, he announced that he will be making a comeback on February 16 with his third digital single "Paranoia".[40]
On March 18, Kang Daniel dropped a teaser for his third mini album Yellow, the final installment of his "color trilogy", which was released on April 13.[41]
On May 5, it was announced that Kang Daniel would be releasing a new song "Outerspace", featuring rapper Loco, on May 13 through the UNIVERSE Music project.[42]
On November 10, Superman C&M and Cyworld Z announced that Kang Daniel and Chancellor will be releasing a remake of Epik High's "Fly" as part of the Cyworld BGM 2021 project. The single "Cyworld BGM 2021" was released on November 16.[43]

On February 1, 2021, KONNECT Entertainment shared with Star News that Kang Daniel has been offered the lead role for Disney+ original series, Rookie Cops.[44] The first episode premiered on January 26, 2022.[45]
On April 22, 2022, KONNECT confirmed that Kang Daniel would be coming back with a new album in May.[46]
On April 29, he released the single "Ready to Ride" as the 19th release of the UNIVERSE Music project.
On May 2, a trailer titled "The Story" was released.[47] It was later announced that he would be releasing his first full-length album, The Story, on May 24.[48][49][50]
On June 1, Kang Daniel opened his official Japanese website and announced that he will be making his Japanese debut in the summer.[51] It was later announced that he will release his debut Japanese EP, Joy Ride on October 5 with the lead single "TPIR (feat. MIYAVI)" being pre-released on August 17.[52]
On November 7, Kang Daniel announced that he will return with his first repackage album, Retold on November 24.[53]

On May 26, 2023, Kang Daniel released a teaser film for his upcoming release scheduled for June 19.[54] On May 31, the pre-orders for his fourth mini album Realiez opened.[55] The single "Wasteland" was pre-released on June 7.
On June 22, Mnet announced that Kang Daniel will be the MC for their reality show Street Women Fighter 2.[56]
On August 9, it was announced that Kang Daniel’s second Japanese digital single, "Supernova (Japanese Version)", will be released later that day.[57]
On October 20, it was announced that Kang Daniel will release his second Japanese EP, Re8el, on November 29.[58]

On May 20, 2024, Wooree Law Firm, Kang Daniel's legal representative, announced that they filed a criminal complaint against the major shareholder of KONNECT Entertainment for charges including counterfeit of private document, embezzlement, breach of trust, violation of information and communications network, and fraud by use of computer.[59] It was later reported that Kang Daniel's contract with KONNECT Entertainment will be ending in June and he is expected not to renew and step down from his position as CEO.[60]
On June 9, 2024, a statement was released which revealed that KONNECT Entertainment has officially closed down after five years.[61]
On July 25, it was announced that Kang Daniel signed an exclusive contract with ARA, an entertainment company founded by a former KONNECT executive with prior experience at YG Entertainment and BigHit Music.[62]
On August 30, it was announced that Kang Daniel will make his first comeback under his new agency with his fifth mini album, Act, in September.[63] The release date was later revealed to be September 23.[64]

Kang Daniel took the GED after appearing in Produce 101 Season 2. He currently studies at Kyunghee Cyber University.[65]
Relationship[]
On August 5, 2019, local news source Dispatch reported that he and TWICE's Jihyo were dating. Later that day, the reports were confirmed by both agencies. Also, it was revealed the two were introduced to each other through 2AM's Seulong.[66][67]
On November 9, 2020, JYP Entertainment confirmed that the couple had broken up due to busy schedules.[68][69]

On December 4, 2019, KONNECT Entertainment released a statement stating that Kang Daniel visited the hospital due to poor health caused by a weak immune system and psychological anxiety starting from the first half of the year.[70] He was then diagnosed with depression and panic disorder after a detailed examination and treats it through psychotherapy and medication.[70] As he had been expressing more severe symptoms of anxiety, he will be taking a temporary break from activities to focus on his recovery.[70]
On February 10, 2020, KONNECT announced that he has been fully recovered and that he would resume scheduled activities.[71]

- Him and fellow member and label mate Jisung were once back-up dancers for Cao Lu and Park Sihyun during their trainee years.[89]
- He has a maternal aunt who lives in Canada where he learned to speak English.
- He had been B-boying since junior high school and was the first B-boy in the rookie battle in the Busan scene.[90]
- He changed his name to Kang Daniel because he was worried that it will be hard to pronounce his birth name Eui Geon.[91]
