Joy (조이) is a South Korean singer and actress under SM Entertainment. She is a member of the girl group Red Velvet.
She made her solo debut on May 31, 2021 with the special album Hello.

Career
Pre-debut
During her second year of middle school, she fell in love with music and the stage when she performed on stage for the school festival. That was when her friends suggested her to audition and she decided to become a singer.[1] Joy then auditioned for SM Entertainment through the SM Global Audition in Seoul in 2012 and passed.[2]
2014-2016: Debut with Red Velvet, We Got Married
She debuted as a member of Red Velvet on August 1, 2014 with the group's first digital single "Happiness".
In June 2015, Joy became part of the cast of the fourth season of the MBC show, We Got Married, and was partnered with BTOB member Yook Sungjae.[3] They released a collaborated single, "Young Love", on April 16, 2015. Joy and Yook Sungjae left the show in May 2016 and became the longest-running couple that the show has ever had.[4] They went on to win the New Star Award and Best Couple at the MBC Entertainment Awards.[5]
2017: Acting debut
In 2017, she made her acting debut as the female lead on the tvN drama The Liar and His Lover.[6] For her performance in the drama, she won the Newcomer Award at the OSEN Cable TV Awards.
In July 2017, Joy appeared on King of Mask Singer where she won her first round of the singing competition program and performed under the alias of Bandabi.[7]
2018-2019 Two Yoo Project Sugar Man, Tempted
Joy joined as an MC for the second season of JTBC's Two Yoo Project Sugar Man, which began airing in January 2018.[8] In 2018, she played the main female lead in the MBC drama, Tempted, which aired from March to May.[9] For her performance on Tempted, she was nominated for Best Actress and Rookie of the Year at the MBC Drama Awards.[10] In July 2018, Joy became one of the MC's on Lifetime's new show, Pajama Friends.[11] Six months later, it was announced that Joy was picked to be one of the main MC's, alongside Jang Yoon-ju, for OnStyle's beauty variety show, Get It Beauty.[12] In December, Joy joined the SBS basketball variety show, Handsome Tigers, where she was the manager of the basketball team.[13]
2021: Animal Farm, Hello, The One and Only
On June 6, Joy made her first appearance on the SBS variety show TV Animal Farm and was introduced as the new MC.[14]
On May 12, 2021, Star News reported that Joy would be releasing her first solo album at the end of the month. Her agency, SM, confirmed that she is working on a remake album and that a detailed schedule will be announced soon.[15] On May 17, it was announced that Joy would be releasing her debut special album, Hello, on May 31.[16]
Joy made her acting return on December 20 in the JTBC drama, The One and Only.[17]

Relationship
On August 23, 2021, Sports Chosun reported that Joy and Crush were dating. An hour later, both agencies confirmed and commented that they recently began dating with good feelings toward each other.[18][19]

- Joy has had various nicknames including: Doongdoongie, Malgeumie, Cute Joy, Miss Korea, and Sexy Dynamite.[27]
- After receiving praise for performing a cover of the Korean rock band Cherry Filter’s song "Flying Duck", Joy was influenced to become a singer.[28]
