Jiwoo (지우; also known by her full name) is a South Korean singer-songwriter and rapper under DSP Media. She is the maknae of the co-ed group KARD.
Early life[]
Jiwoo was raised alongside her brother in South Korea by her middle-class working parents – her father is working at an insurance company, while her mother is a secretary. Jiwoo and her brother are very different and thus grew up not being very close to each other.
Jiwoo became interested in music at a very early age, as her mother would often watch music shows on TV – she started practicing singing while attending elementary school, and at the same time was interested in acting and dancing.
She attended Chungdam High School where she met Jihyo, who is today a member of the girl group TWICE and it was while at Chungdam that Jeon was noticed by a scout, and later signed a contract with FNC Ent. She trained under them for five years before switching to DSP Media, and launching her career with KARD just two months later.
Jeon matriculated from Chungdam in 2015, and then chose to focus on singing rather than on pursuing a college degree. During her trainee days, she trained for 5 years at FNC Entertainment. She later went on to join the DSP Media, training for 2 months. She debuted as a member of KARD on July 19, 2017, along with BM, J.Seph, and Somin.
Career[]
2016–present: Debut with KARD, solo activities[]
On December 1, 2016, Jiwoo was revealed as a member of KARD.[1] After releasing three project singles, the group made their official debut on July 19, 2017 with the mini album Hola Hola. In an interview with Etnews, Jiwoo revealed that she was preparing to debut in a girl group and did not know what she will be in a mixed group, and yet she decided to trust the decision of the company and debuted in KARD[2].
Somin and Jiwoo were featured in Super Junior's "Lo Siento", which was later included on the boy band's "Replay" album released on April 12, 2018. The girls were later invited to perform the song along with Super Junior on Korean music programs.
KARD had their debut solo concert on August 19, 2019 in South Korea, where Jiwoo also performed a cover of Camila Cabello's OMG song with BM.[3]
In 2020 Jiwoo took part in "Good Girl". During the show, she took part in writing the lyrics for the song "Witch".
On January 25, 2022 Jiwoo gave an interview to 1stLook and took part in a photoshoot with Hyunseung.[4] A video was released on February 7, 2022.[5]
On March 2022 Jiwoo appeared in Marie Claire Korea magazine as a model and gave an interview.[6] Later in April 2, 2022, Jiwoo starred in the Marie Claire Korea "Jeon Jiwoo MY 10 FAVORITES" video, where she chose her favorite item from ten different categories.[7]
