Jini (지니; formerly romanized as Jinni) is a South Korean singer, dancer and rapper under ATOC.[n 1] She is a former member of the girl group NMIXX.
She made her solo debut on October 11, 2023 with the EP An Iron Hand In A Velvet Glove.
Career[]
2021–2022: NMIXX[]
On July 9, 2021, a teaser was revealed containing the phrase "Your Next Favorite Girl group" sparking rumors that JYP Entertainment would be debuting a new girl group soon (now known to be NMIXX.)[1] On August 6, Jini (then known as Jinni), along with Jiwoo and Kyujin, were revealed as the group's first three members through a dance performance video.[2]
The group debuted on February 22, 2022 with the single album "Ad Mare".
On December 9, 2022, JYP Entertainment announced that Jinni would be departing the group and agency due to personal reasons and her contract with them has been terminated.[3]
2023: SNS return, new agency, romanization change, solo debut[]
On March 18, Jinni made her return on social media with the creation of her personal Instagram account.[4]
On April 14, it was reported by news outlet Sports Kyunghyang that Jinni had signed an exclusive contract with a new agency called UAP and that they had signed a management MOU collaboration with SUBLIME to manage her activities on their behalf, which SUBLIME later confirmed.[5] It was also revealed that the romanization of Jinni's stage name had changed to Jini with the opening of UAP's official Instagram and Twitter accounts.[6]
On September 14, Jini announced her solo debut with first teasers for her first EP, An Iron Hand In A Velvet Glove, set to be released on October 11.[7]
