IVE (아이브) is a six-member girl group under Starship Entertainment. They debuted on December 1, 2021 with their single album “Eleven”.

Their name is an abbreviation for "I Have".[2]

History

Pre-debut

In 2018, Yujin and Wonyoung competed on Mnet's survival show Produce 48 in which they ranked in the final 12, thus debuting as members of the project girl group IZ*ONE. The group debuted on October 29, 2018 and disbanded on April 29, 2021.

On February 18, 2021, it was announced that An Yujin would become the new MC for Inkigayo, replacing Naeun of APRIL.[3] She made her first appearance as an MC, alongside TREASURE's Jihoon and NCT's Sungchan, on March 7.

On August 22, 2021, an article published by Star News revealed that Starship Entertainment would be debuting a new girl group during the second half of 2021; it was also stated that former members of IZ*ONE An Yu Jin and Jang Won Young, who are also artists under the label, would be included in the group. Later that same day, Starship confirmed the plans to debut the group but however left no comment regarding Yujin and Wonyoung's inclusion.[4]

On September 27, it was announced that Jang Wonyoung and ENHYPEN's Sunghoon would become the new MCs for KBS' Music Bank, replacing OH MY GIRL's Arin and TXT's Soobin after they stepped down from their positions as the previous MCs.[5]

On November 1, the group's official SNS accounts were opened along with the reveal of their name "IVE" and the motion video of their logo.[6] On November 2, the next day, a Naver article was published reporting that the group will be made up of six members and that previously revealed members An Yujin and Jang Wonyoung are to be included.[7]

On November 2, Yujin was officially announced as the group's first member,[8] followed by Gaeul on November 3,[9] Wonyoung on November 4,[10] Liz on November 5,[11] Rei on November 6,[12] and Leeseo on November 7.[13]

The showcase was also broadcasted on the group's official channel.[16]

On November 15, a video series called "Show What I Have" was started on the group's official YouTube channel, where each member introduced themselves, starting with An Yujin on November 15, followed by Rei on November 16, Leeseo on November 17, Liz on November 18, Gaeul on November 19 and Jang Wonyoung on November 20.[17]

It ended the year as the 49th best selling album of the year in Korea.[22]

On December 8, 2021, IVE received their first music show win on MBC's Show Champion for "Eleven." They became the fastest girl group to achieve their first win at only seven days post-debut, beating the previous record of nine days held by ITZY.[23]

On December 9, 2021, IVE revealed through their Twitter that their fandom name would be DIVE.[24]

Two months later, on June 8, the album was certified Double Platinum by the Korean Music Contents Association (KMCA) for selling 500,000 copies on Gaon Chart.[26]

On June 9, it was revealed through Gaon Chart that IVE had accumulated over 1 million physical albums sold just 6 months after their debut, making them a member of the 'million-seller club'.[27]

On July 14, it was announced that IVE will be releasing a Japanese version of their debut single, "Eleven", sometime in the summer. The song was selected as the theme song for Fuji TV's 'Virtual Adventure Island 2022', which will begin on August 11.[28]
