Honey Popcorn (허니팝콘; also stylized in all caps) is a four-member Japanese K-pop girl group under Kyun Create. They debuted as three members on March 21, 2018 with their first mini album Bibidi Babidi Boo.
History[]
Pre-debut[]
Before their debut, all the members had already their own career:
- Yua Mikami was a member of the supergroup SKE48, under the name Kito Momona.
- Moko Sakura was a member of the unit Bakusute Sotokanda Icchome, under the name Ito Yuu.
- Miko Matsuda was a member of the supergroup NMB48, under the name Okada Risako.
- All three girls are also AV (adult video) actresses in Japan. It is expected that they continue with this occupation even while doing their promotions as idols.
The group planned to have a debut showcase on March 14, but was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.[1]
2018: Debut with Bibidi Babidi Boo, Miko's departure[]
On March 21, Honey Popcorn debuted with their first mini album Bibidi Babidi Boo. Later, on August 4, Honey Popcorn announced that they are looking to recruit new members.[2]
On December 20, the group made their Chinese debut with the digital single "Pretty Lie". On December 23, Miko announced on her Twitter account that she will be graduating from the group.[3]
2019: New members, De-aeseohsta[]
On April 6, the group announced the addition of three new members with their identities not being disclosed as of yet and covered with masks.[4]
On June 7, Nako Miyase was revealed as the group's first new member, followed by Ruka Tajima on the 14th, and Sara Izumi on the 21st.[5][6][7]
2021: Misunderstanding about a disbandment[]
On January 17, 2021, member Nako Miyase announced on her social medias – in a now deleted post – that the group had disbanded. Two days later, she returned to her platforms at the behest of her company, justifying that the group did not disband and apologized for the misunderstanding.[8]
