Hangyul (한결; also known by his full name Lee Han Gyul) is a South Korean singer and actor under PocketDol Studio. He is the leader of the boy group BAE173 and a former member of X1, IM, and duo H&D. He is also a former member of the pre-debut group MBK BOYS.

Career[]

2017: The Unit[]

In 2017, he, along with the members of IM, participated in KBS2's idol rebooting project show The Unit.  He finished in 13th place, unfortunately not becoming a member of UNB. Afterward, he was included as a dancer in UNB's Black Heart promotions.

2019–2020: Produce X 101, X1, MBK BOYS, H&D, BAE173[]

In 2019, he participated in Mnet's boy group survival show Produce X 101. On May 10, during the survival show, he was revealed as a member of the pre-debut group MBK BOYS[1] Then he finished in 7th place, thus becoming a member of X1. The group officially debuted on August 27, 2019 with the mini album, 비상 : Quantum Leap.

However, on January 6, 2020, the agencies representing the members announced the group has disbanded due to not being able to reach a unanimous agreement following the Produce 101 vote manipulation controversy.[2]

On January 8, 2020, it was announced that the official Twitter Account MBK BOYS was changed with POCKETDOLZ that would include in the line-up he and Nam Do Hyun, explaining the official disbandment of MBK BOYS.[3]

He, along with fellow labelmate and X1 member Dohyon, debuted as the duo H&D on April 21, 2020. They disbanded following the release of the special album Umbrella on September 23, 2020.

On September 23, 2020, he was introduced as one of the members of the pre-debut boy group POCKETDOLZ.[4] On September 25, 2020 it was revealed that the group's name will be BAE173. The group officially debuted on November 19, 2020 with their first mini album Intersection : Spark.

On April 17, 2022, it was announced that BAE173's leadership position, which was originally held by Junseo, had been passed onto Hangyul.[5]

2024: Starlight Boys[]

On September 29, 2024, Hangyul was introduced as a contestant on the Chinese-South Korean survival show Starlight Boys.[6]

  • He revealed that he was abandoned by his parents as a baby and grew up in an orphanage until he was adopted by his mother at age 7.[8]
  • He has two brothers who are 15 and 16 years older than him.[8]
  • Hangyul has stated that he wants to work hard and succeed in order to pay back everyone who has taken care of him until now.[8]
  • His hobbies are taekwondo, basketball and watching movies.[9]
  • Hangyul was a backup dancer for Jiyeon's "Lullaby" and Shannon's "Hello".[10][11]
