Glitch Mode is the second full-length album by NCT DREAM. It was released on March 28, 2022 with "Glitch Mode" serving as the album's title track.
Chenle injured his left ankle while preparing for the album and will be going undergoing treatment for it. He will be focusing on recovering from his injury and will be participating in schedules that are within reasonable bounds.[1]
The physical album comes in nine versions: Photobook (Scratch and Glitch) and seven member version Digipack.
A repackage titled Beatbox, was released on May 30, 2022.
Composition[]
"Glitch Mode" is described as an addictive song with repeated hooks like buffering and unique chanting.[2] "Fire Alarm" is described as an intense song with an energetic intro, while "Arcade" is described as a suspenseful B-side track.[3] "It’s Yours" is described as a sweet love song and "Replay" as a mature mood B-side track.[4] "Better Than Gold" is described as a happy festive mood song while "Saturday Drip" is described as a 90's hip-hop style track.[5] "Never Goodbye" and "Teddy Bear" are described as healing songs to recharge emotions with warm lyrics and sweet vocals.[6]
Commercial performance[]
As of March 27, the album recorded a total of 2,030,539 stock pre-orders, which is about 300,000 more than their previous personal best record of 1,7 million stock pre-orders for their first full album Hot Sauce.[7]
On the day of its release, the album immediately sweep the No. 1 spot on various domestic daily album charts including Hanteo, and the song "Glitch Mode" also reached No. 1 on multiple realtime music charts including Melon, Bugs, and Vibe. As of 11 a.m. KST on March 29, Glitch Mod had already hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums charts in at least 28 different regions. Additionally, the album also topped QQ Music's digital album chart in China, while both the album and its title track hit No. 1 on Line Music's Top 100 charts, as well as AWA's realtime chart, in Japan.[8]
According to Hanteo Chart, by 11:08 a.m. KST on March 31, the album had surpassed 1 million sales, making the group one of only three artists in Hanteo history who have managed to surpass 1 million sales in the first week of an album's release.[9] Hanteo Chart later reported that Glitch Mode sold a total of 1,405,199 copies in the first week of its release (March 28 to April 3), marking the highest first-week sales of any album released in 2022 and becoming the artist with the second-highest first-week sales in Hanteo history.[10]
On April 5, Billboard officially announced that Glitch Mode had debuted at No. 50 on their Top 200 Albums chart, making it NCT DREAM's first album ever to enter the Billboard 200. The album was also No. 5 on both Billboard's Top Album Sales chart and Top Current Album Sales chart, as well as No. 2 on Billboard's World Albums chart and No. 7 on the Independent Albums chart.[11]
On April 8, Gaon Chart announced that Glitch Mode achieved a Gaon double crown for the month of March, topping both the monthly album chart and the monthly download chart, as well as a double crown on Gaon's weekly charts.[12]
