Girls On Fire (걸스 온 파이어) is a reality survival show by JTBC. It premiered on April 16, 2024 and concluded on June 25, 2024. It followed the process of creating a new five-member female vocal group.
The show was available to stream internationally every week on Rakuten Viki with English subtitles, Lemino in Japan, and friDay in Taiwan.[1]
The final winning group earned a prize of ₩200,000,000, an album release, a national concert tour, and a global showcase.[2]
However, on December 23, 2024, it was announced that the debut of the final group had been cancelled due to circumstances with the agency they were supposed to join after the show.[3]
Background[]
On August 7, 2023, JTBC announced that the third audition program project of Studio JAMM, the production team behind Phantom Singer and SuperBand, would be the formation of a new female vocal group. They referenced Big Mama, MAMAMOO, and Davichi as examples of what they were looking for. Singers of any genre were able to apply, and they could apply as individuals or as a team.[4][5] The final application deadline was January 21, 2024.[6]
The applicants had to pass three preliminary rounds to appear on the show.[7]
On March 18, 2024, it was announced that the show would premiere on April 16.[8] Profile photos and singing teasers of the 50 contestants who passed the preliminary rounds were later released on the show's official website, Instagram, TikTok, and the KPOP JAMM YouTube channel.[9]
On April 2, a preview of the first round in the first episode was released.[10]
On April 12, a video of the contestants singing a cover of "Spark" by Taeyeon was released.[11]
