Girl's Day (걸스데이) is a four-member girl group formed by DreamT Entertainment in 2010. Originally as five, they debuted on July 9, 2010 with the mini album Girl's Day Party #1.
History[]
Pre-debut[]
In June 2010, it was revealed that DreamT Entertainment would be debuting a girl group called Girl's Day the following month. The lineup consisted of Jihae, Jisun, Jiin, Sojin, and Minah.[1]
2010: Debut with Girl's Day Party #1, "How About Me", Jisun and Jiin's departure, addition of Hyeri and Yura & "Girl's Day Party #2"[]
On July 9, 2010, Girl's Day made their debut with their first mini album Girl's Day Party #1. This was followed by the release of their first digital single "How About Me" on July 22, 2010.
On September 13, just two month after their debut, DreamT Entertainment announced Jisun and Jiin's departure from the group: Jisun left to make a fresh start as a singer, while Jiin left to pursue acting. With this, the agency planned to recruit two new members.[2] Three days later, Hyeri and Yura were revealed as new members.[3]
On October 29, the group released their second digital single "Girl's Day Party #2".
On November 8, it was reported that Yura's former agency, Action Music Entertainment, had filed an injunction to ban her from broadcasting activities, claiming that she left the agency and join Girl's Day without permission.[4] On the 20th of the same month, Ulsan District Court dismissed the injunction.[5]
2011: "Girl's Day Party #3", Everyday & "Girl's Day Party #4"[]
On March 18, 2011, they returned with their third digital single "Girl's Day Party #3".
On July 7, the group released their second mini album Everyday, with "Hug Me Once" serving as the title track.
On September 2, they released their fourth digital single "Girl's Day Party #4".
2012: Everyday II, Jihae's departure & "Girl's Day Party #5"[]
On April 18, 2012, the group released their third mini album Everyday II, with "Oh! My God" serving as the title track.
On October 17, a few days ahead of their comeback, it was announced that Jihae had left the group due to personal reasons.[6] With this, the remaining four members returned with their sixth digital single "Girl's Day Party #5" on October 26.
2013: "White Day", Expectation, Female President, "Girl's Day Party #6" & "Let's Go"[]
On February 21, 2013, they released their seventh digital single "White Day".
On March 14, 2013, they returned with their first full-length album Expectation, with "Expectation" serving as the title track. The repackage version Female President was later released on June 24, 2013 with "Female President" as the follow-up track.
This was followed by their eighth digital single "Girl's Day Party #6" on June 30, 2013 and ninth digital single "Let's Go" on October 15, 2013.
2014: Everyday III, Everyday 4, I Miss You & Japanese debut with Girl's Day Best Album[]
On January 3, 2014, Girl's Day released their fourth mini-album Everyday III, with "Something" serving as the title track.
On July 14, they released their fifth mini album Everyday 4, with "Darling" serving as the title track.
On October 15, they released their first special mini-album I Miss You, consisting of previously released ballads as well as the title track "I Miss You".
On November 26, they made their Japanese debut with the release of Girl's Day Best Album.
2015: "Hello Bubble" & Love[]
On May 12, 2015, they released their tenth digital single "Hello Bubble" as a collaboration project with the Korean hair care brand Mise en scène.
On July 7, they returned with their second full-length album Love, with "Ring My Bell" serving as the title track.
2017: Everyday #5[]
On March 27, 2017, they returned with their fifth mini-album Everyday #5 after a 21-month long hiatus, with "I'll Be Yours" serving as the title track.
2018–present: Departure from DreamT Entertainment & indefinite hiatus[]
On January 11, 2019, DreamT Entertainment announced that Sojin had decided to not renew her contract and would be leaving the agency once it expired in February. In addition, the remaining members' contracts with the agency were also expiring. Despite this, the agency stated that the group wouldn't disband with talks of group activities in the future.[7]
After Sojin's departure, the remaining members soon followed suit with Yura signing with Awesome ENT on March 20, Minah with Yooborn Company on March 29, and Hyeri with Creative Group ING on April 30.[8][9][10] With this, the group entered an indefinite hiatus.
