UP10TION (업텐션; also known as U10T) is a seven-member boy group formed by TOP Media. Originally as 10, they debuted on September 10, 2015 with the mini album Top Secret.
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
Prior to their debut, the members of UP10TION were introduced through the Naver TVCast series 복면신인왕전 UP10TION (lit. King of Masked Rookie UP10TION), a parody of the MBC reality show King of Mask Singer. The series began airing on July 20, 2015 with Wooshin introduced as the group's first member.[1] This was followed by Hwanhee and Jinhoo on the 21st,[2] Bit-to on the 22nd,[3] Kogyeol on the 23rd,[4] Kuhn and Sunyoul on the 24th,[5] and Gyujin, Wei, Xiao on the 25th.[6][7][8]
2015: Debut with Top Secret, Bravo![]
On September 9, UP10TION held their debut showcase at AX Concert Hall in Seoul in which 500 of their fans attended.[9] The group then held their official debut stage on September 10 on M Countdown, performing their song "So, Dangerous", the title track of their debut mini album Top Secret, which was released on September 11.[10] They also held their official Chinese debut showcase at Botai Jiahua International Hotel in Beijing, China on September 22.[11]
On November 26, UP10TION released their second mini album Bravo! with the title track "Catch Me!".
2016: Spotlight, Summer Go!, Burst[]
On April 18, UP10TION released their third mini album Spotlight with the title track "Attention".
On August 5, the group released their fourth mini album Summer Go! with the title track "Tonight".
On November 21, the group released their fifth mini album Burst with the title track "White Night".
2017: Japanese debut, Wooseok's hiatus, Star;dom, and 2017 Special Photo Edition[]
Up10tion released their Japanese debut single "ID" on February 27. They then held their first Japan tour Zepp Tour 2017 ID in May.
On June 6, TOP Media announced that member Wooseok's would be taking a break from activities as his psychological condition had worsened due to the mental stress that he had been receiving since the end of 2016, due to a controversy that alleged he had inappropriately touched his The Show co-host, Jeon Somi, near her chest area during a video at Christmas.[12]
With Wooseok on hiatus, UP10TION continued their activities as nine members. On June 29, the group released their sixth mini album Star;dom with "Runner" serving as album's title track.
On October 12, the group released their first special album, UP10TION 2017 Special Photo Edition, which contained two tracks including the title track "Going Crazy".
2018: "Wild Love", Invitation, "Chaser", and Laberinto[]
On January 20, UP10TION released their second Japanese single "Wild Love".
On March 9, TOP Media announced Wooseok's return to the group following his nine-month hiatus, ahead of the group's comeback with their first full-length album Invitation.[13] The album was released on March 15 with "Candyland" serving as the title track.[14]
In May, UP10TION held their second Japanese tour UP10TION Japan Live Tour 2018 「Candyland」. From June 15 to 29, the group held their first fanmeeting tour UP10TION 1st US Meet & Live Tour - Candyland across eight cities.[15][16]
On August 8, UP10TION released third Japanese single "Chaser". On August 20, they released their second special album UP10TION 2018 Special Photo Edition with the title track "So Beautiful".
On September 19, the group began their first European tour UP10TION Europe Tour.
On December 6, UP10TION released their seventh mini album Laberinto with "Blue Rose" serving as album's title track.
2019: Produce X 101, members hiatus, The Moment of Illusion[]
On May 31, UP10TION began their North American concert tour, Laberinto Tour in North America, without Wooseok and Jinhyuk.
From May to July 2019, Jinhyuk and Wooseok participated as contestants on the boy group survival show Produce X 101. On the July 19, 2019 finale, Jinhyuk and Wooseok ranked 14th and 2nd place, respectively, with the latter becoming a member of X1 with an exclusive 2-and-a-half year contract with the group. During this period, Wooseok was to be absent from UP10TION activities.[17]
On August 22, UP10TION released their eighth mini album The Moment of Illusion with "Your Gravity" serving as album's title track. Wooseok and Jinhyuk did not participate in the comeback due to their respective activities. On November 4, Jinhyuk made his solo debut with the mini album S.O.L.[18]
2020: Jinhoo's hiatus, Light Up[]
On January 6, 2020, it was announced that X1 had disbanded due to the Produce 101 vote manipulation controversy.[19] Following their disbandment, Wooseok made his solo debut on May 25 with his first mini album 1st Desire [Greed].[20]
On April 7, TOP Media announced Jinhoo will go on a hiatus due to health concerns. They also announced UP10TION were aiming for a summer comeback as a 7-member ensemble.[21]
The group would eventually make their comeback on September 24 with their ninth mini album Light Up.
On November 23, it was announced that Jinhoo would begin his mandatory military service on the same day.[22]
On November 29, it was announced that Bit-to had tested positive for COVID-19.[23] On December 1, Kogyeol also tested positive for COVID-19 after TOP Media tested all of his group members as well as the agency's employees and staff members the previous day.[24] On December 15, Xiao tested positive for COVID-19.[25] By December 30, all of the members had recovered from COVID-19.[26]
2021–2022: Connection, Novella, Jinhoo’s return, Code Name: Arrow[]
On June 14, 2021, UP10TION released their second full-length album Connection with "Spin Off" serving as its title track.
On January 3, 2022, UP10TION released their 10th mini album Novella.
On May 22, 2022, Jinhoo was discharged in the military.
On September 15, 2022, TOP Media announced that UP10TION is currently preparing for a comeback, with the goal of releasing a new album in October.[27] On October 12, UP10TION released their 11th mini album Code Name: Arrow.[28]
2023: Hwanhee and Xiao's participation on Boys Planet, departures of Jinhoo, Lee Jin Hyuk, and Wooshin[]
On December 29, 2022, it was announced that Hwanhee and Xiao (using his real name Lee Dong Yeol) would be partaking in Mnet's survival show Boys Planet, which started airing on February 2, 2023.
In January 2023, Jinhoo was no longer listed on the group's Naver and Daum page. He would then be removed from TOP Media's official website, which indicate that he quietly departed from the group.
On February 28, 2023, it was announced that Lee Jin Hyuk would be leaving TOP Media after deciding not to renew his contract which expires on March 11. It was also announced that Kuhn, Kogyeol, Bit-to, Sunyoul, and Gyujin would also be leaving the agency but UP10TION would continue with its current seven-member lineup, confirming Jinhoo and Wooshin's departure from the group as well.[29]
On March 20, 2023, it was announced that Hwanhee would be leaving TOP Media after his participation in Boys Planet.[30] Xiao subsequently left TOP Media on March 31, after wrapping up his participation in Boys Planet. He would be the last among the seven current members to depart from the agency.[31]
