"Black Mamba" is the debut digital single by aespa. It was released on November 17, 2020.[1] The song later appears on the album Girls.

Background[]

On October 26, 2020, an intro video was released on aespa's social media announcing their name and logo.[2] Later that day, it was announced that SM would be debuting a new girl group in November.[3][4] On November 2, 2020, it was announced the group would debut on November 17 with the digital single "Black Mamba",[5][6][7]

Composition[]

"Black Mamba" was described as powerful dance track with a signature synth sound and bass that is paired with an addictive hook. The lyrics are about a being called “Black Mamba” that not only interferes with the members' and avatar's connection but also threatens their world.[8]

Promotion[]

The group performed the song at several music shows such as Music Bank and Inkigayo, as well as traditional holiday festivals such as SBS's Gayo and MBC's Gayo Daejejeon.

On January 17, 2021 the group won their first music show win with "Black Mamba" on SBS's Inkigayo.[9][10]

Commercial performance[]

On July 26, 2023, "Black Mamba" received a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan after surpassing 50 million streams in Japan.[11]
