DKZ (디케이지), formerly known as DONGKIZ (동키즈), is a five-member boy group under Dongyo Entertainment. They released their pre-debut single "DONGKIZ Pre-debut D/S 1." on November 21, 2018 before officially debuting on April 24, 2019 with their first single album "DONGKIZ On The Block."[2]

On March 18, 2022, their agency announced DONGKIZ's name change to DKZ, Won Dae's departure from the group, and the addition of three new members.[3]

History[]

2018: Pre-debut[]

DONGKIZ began pre-debut promotional activities in the second half of 2018 with the release of cover videos on their YouTube Channel. On October 17, Dongyo confirmed the group would be making their debut in early 2019. It was also announced the group would be participating in the HEC Korea Concert to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Thailand on November 17.[4] On November 8, it was revealed that DONGKIZ would release a pre-debut single at the end of the month and was aiming for a February 2019 debut.[5]

On November 21, DONGKIZ released the pre-debut digital single "DONGKIZ Pre-debut D/S 1." with the track "Nom".[6]

2019: Debut, "Blockbuster", "Dreaming You", and first mini album[]

On April 10, 2019, Dongpyo announced that DONGKIZ would releasing their debut single album "DONGKIZ On The Block" on April 24. The album would include their pre-debut song "Nom" as its title track and a remix version of "Nom".[7]

On July 22, the group made their first comeback with their second single album "Blockbuster."

On September 11, they released their first digital single "Dreaming You."

On November 6, they released their first mini album Dongky Town with "Fever" serving as the album's title track. Kyoung Yoon did not participate in the comeback due to health issues.

2020: "Lupin" and "Ego"[]

On September 11, 2020, DONGKIZ released their second digital single "Lupin."

The group came back on August 19 with the release of their third single album "Ego."

2021: "Youniverse", "Chase Episode 1. Ggum", Won Dae and Mun Ik's hiatuses, and "It's All Right Part.2"[]

On April 15, 2021, DONGKIZ released their fourth single album "Youniverse" with "Universe" serving as its title track.

On July 1, the group released their fifth single album "Chase Episode 1. Ggum" with "Crazy Night" serving as its title track.

On August 24, their agency announced that Won Dae and Mun Ik would be going on hiatus due to Won Dae experiencing shoulder pain and Mun Ik for mental health reasons.[8]

On December 30, 2021, the group released their third digital single "It's All Right Part.2" as part of their year-end project.

2022: Name and lineup changes, "Chase Episode 2. Maum", "Chase Episode 3. Beum", first music show win, "It's All Right Part.3"[]

On March 18, 2022, Dongyo announced through DONGKIZ's fancafe on a number of changes to the group. Firstly, Won Dae, who had been on hiatus since August 2021, would be leaving the group following conversations with the agency and opinion by his doctor for more rehabilitation. Mun Ik, who is also on hiatus, would not be participating in the group's upcoming April comeback due to not being fully recovered. Lastly, it was announced that DONGKIZ would now be going by their new name DKZ and that three new members would be joining the group.[3] A logo motion video was also released the same day, showcasing the group's new logo.[9]

DKZ Chase Episode 2

On March 25, DKZ released a teaser for their sixth single album "Chase Episode 2. Maum", set for release on April 12.[10][11]

On March 28, Se Hyeon, Min Gyu, and Gi Seok were announced as the group's new members.[12][13][14]

On September 22, DKZ announced their seventh single album, "Chase Episode 3. Beum", which was released on October 6.[15]

On October 18, DKZ took their first win of their career with "Uh-Heung" on SBS M's The Show.[16]

On November 7, it was announced that DKZ is the winner of the third and final round of Mnet's fan-voted online competition "ROAD TO MAX".[17] By winning, the group got a chance to have a special stage on M Countdown (round one), perform at K-CON (round two) and perform at MAMA 2022 (round three).

On December 19, the group announced their fourth digital single "It's All Right Part.3" as part of their year-end project.[18]

2023: Mun Ik's departure, Kyoung Yoon's hiatus, Harmony, NINE to SIX's debut and Kyung Yoon's departure, "It's All Right Part.4"[]

On February 28, 2023, their agency announced that member Mun Ik, who had been on hiatus from activities since August 2021, had officially withdrawn and left the group, but also stated that he would stay with the company.[19]

On April 20, Dongyo Entertainment announced that Kyoung Yoon would temporarily halt activities from DKZ after a diagnosis of anxiety and sociophobia.[20]

On April 24, the group announced the release of their first repackage album Harmony, with online and offline sales for the LP beginning later that same day.[21][22]

On May 18, Dongyo Entertainment announced that members Jong Hyeong and Min Gyu will be debuting as an unit named NINE to SIX in late May.[23] On May 20, they announced that the unit's debut single album, "Good to You", will be released on May 31.[24]

On August 7, Dongyo Entertainment announced that member Kyoung Yoon, who had been on hiatus from activities since April 2023, had officially withdrawn and left the group and would be fufiling his military duties later in the year.[25]

On December 18, the group announced their sixth digital single "It's All Right Part.4" as part of their year-end project.[26]

2024: Reboot[]

On March 29, 2024, the group released a teaser schedule for their second mini album Reboot, set for release on April 12.[27]

2025: "It's All Right Part.5"[]

On December 27, 2024, the group announced their seventh digital single "It's All Right Part.5" as part of their year-end project.[28] However due to the recent Jeju Air Flight 2216 crash accident, the release was postponed.[29] The new release date was later revealed to be January 5, 2025.[30]
