Chaeyeon (채연) is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actress under BH Entertainment. She is a member of the girl group DIA and its sub-unit BCHCS and a former member of the project group I.O.I.
Career[]
2015: DIA[]
On September 14, 2015, Chaeyeon debuted as a member of the girl group DIA with the release of their first studio album Do It Amazing.
2016: Produce 101, I.O.I, acting debut and BCHCS[]
In 2016, she became a contestant on Mnet's new survival reality show Produce 101, alongside fellow member Cathy. She finished the show in 7th place, thus becoming a member of the project girl group I.O.I.[1]
On May 4, the group debuted with the mini album Chrysalis, and its title track, "Dream Girls".
On May 11, it was revealed that she would also be active as a DIA member whilst being a part of I.O.I.[2][3] On June 10, it was confirmed that she would be absent from I.O.I due to her activities with DIA and would not be a part of I.O.I's first unit.[4]
On June 30, Chaeyeon was confirmed to be making her acting debut in Drinking Solo.[5]
On December 29, she debuted in DIA's first sub-unit, BCHCS.
2017-2019: I.O.I's disbandment and Inkigayo[]
On January 29, 2017, I.O.I officially disbanded following the release of their third and final digital single "Downpour".[6]
On February 3, 2018, Chaeyeon was announced as a new MC for Inkigayo alongside Mingyu and Song Kang, with their first broadcast scheduled for February 18.[7] She stepped down from the position on February 3, 2019.[8]
2020: Hiatus from DIA[]
On May 29, 2020, it was announced that members Chaeyeon and Somyi would not partake in DIA's upcoming comeback with Flower 4 Seasons.[9]
On November 12, it was announced the group was preparing for a January comeback which would feature the return of Chaeyeon, but the comeback was never materialized.[10]
2022-present: Departure from MBK and new agency[]
On May 11, 2022, Edaily reported that DIA is planning on releasing their last album in August before their contracts expire.[11]
On September 16, BH Entertainment announced that Chaeyeon had signed an exclusive contract with the company and would receive support for both her singing and acting career.[12]

Trivia[]
- Chaeyeon is often credited with the origins of the term 'Ending fairy', refering to a solo shot of an idol at the end of a performance. She gained attention for a close-up of her at the end of her group's performance of "Into the New World" by Girls' Generation on Produce 101.[25]
