CAP-TEEN (캡틴) is a 2020 teen reality survival show produced by CJ ENM and broadcast on Mnet. The show includes both young male and female trainees between the ages of 11 and 19 who will compete to debut as a solo, duo or group artist with the help of the nation's top choreographer and music producer.

The first episode aired on November 19, 2020 and the show finalized on January 21, 2021.

Background

In July 2020, it was reported that Mnet was set to air a new audition survival show program aimed at adolescents. The aim of the show will be to provide teens with the opportunities to those who have the dream of becoming a K-Pop idol and nurture them into the next star. It involves not only aspiring teenagers fighting for a winning spot, but also the parents of the contestants offering their support. There is no limit to both individual or team participation, and the winner will be given a special opportunity to release his or her debut song with the music produced by the star producer and the choreography of the nation's top dance team.[1][2]

Recruitment for applicants began in August. The show was initially set to air in October, however it was postponed to November.[2]

Concept

CAP-TEEN aims to evaluate and judge its contestants based on their ability to show the talents required to become a K-pop idol while also providing the contestants with moral and spiritual support from the attendance of their parents. It has been labeled as Korea's 'first parent and child' audition show.

There may only be one winner, who at the end will get to take home ₩10,000,000 and earn a chance to make their own debut as an K-pop singer. In addition to the winning contestants' prize, and extra prize of ₩10,000,000 can be won by the most supportive parent, named the 'Good Care Reward'.
