Build Up : Vocal Boy Group Survivor (빌드업 : 보컬 보이그룹 서바이벌) is a survival show created by Mnet. It premiered on January 26, 2024.
Background[]
On December 5, 2023, Mnet announced that they would be launching of a new survival program Build Up : Vocal Boy Group Survivor in 2024, in order to create a vocal boy group. Additionally, Star News reported that PENTAGON's Yeo One and about 40 other contestants from idols to solo artists, models, and trainees will be participating, including members of WEi, BDC, VANNER, UP10TION, JUST B, KNK, AB6IX, CIX, ONE PACT, Newkidd, and A.C.E.[1]
On December 26, Mnet announced that the show will premiere on January 26, 2024.[2]

Pre-4 Mission[]
The contestants chose their mission song based on the voice check-in ranking, with the highest ranked, Lee Gwang Seok, going first and the lowest ranked, Jang Intae, going last. At the evaluation, the judges chose the top tier, the member which they thought gave the best performance. From performance 4 and onwards, Wendy was absent due to another commitment.
Jay Chang was chosen by all six judges as the top tier of "If You", while Choi Ha Ram was chosen by all five judges as the top tier of "Breath".
Following the evaluation, the top tier of each group chose the low tier, the member which they thought gave the worst performance. The two remaining members of each group were automatically categorized as middle tier.

2 VS 2 Rival Mission[]
For the partner matching, the top tier of each group had priority and could choose any other contestant as their partner. Afterwards, the middle tiers could choose among the remaining contestants. Had some low tiers remained, they would have had to choose among themselves, but all the partner matching was done before that could happen. If one contestant was chosen by multiple other contestants, the selected contestant could choose his partner.
For the rivals matching, all teams had the opportunity to declare themselves as the rival of the selected team. It is currently unknown how the selected teams were selected or in which order they were presented. If several teams wished to battle the selected team, the selected team chose their rivals among those teams. If no team volunteered to battle the selected team, the selected team chose their rivals among the remaining unmatched teams.
At the evaluation, the judges scored each team for a maximum score of 100 per judge. Special judge Seungkwan was present for this mission, therefore the maximum total score was 700. The winning team passed to the next mission, while the losing team was at risk of elimination.
Wumuti and Kang Ha Yoon earned the highest score with 697.

The team with the highest score in the 2 VS 2 Rival Mission, Wumuti and Kang Ha Yoon, was the first to select and the team with the lowest score, Lim Jun Hyeok and Yeo One, was the last.
For the rivals matching, the teams chose their rivals, starting from the team with lowest score to the one with the highest. Teams with a higher score were permitted to push out teams with a lower score.
At the evaluation, the judges chose the best team. Special judge Lim Seul Ong was present, therefore the maximum total score was 7. The winning team passed to the next mission, while the losing team was eliminated.

Following the previous evaluation, the judges also chose a top tier per winning team and ranked each team. For the partner matching, each top tier chose whether to disband his team and rebuild a new team with only new members or maintain his current team and add a new member.
